Mehn, I'm really thinking about getting this. I can get it for like $660, but I still feel that's a lot for such a small unit. If it was like 400-500, I would have already been on it, but I feel like Akai is trying to rape dudes with their prices because there really is nothing else available with the same features on the market.

I looked at the SP-606, trash. MC-808, trash. The whole Electribe series is trash also. No damn options. The only other comparable option is the MV-8000, and that's in the price range of the 2500.

yeah it has the input thru. I use the 500 as a standalone portable Mpc nothing more. I usually import all my samples and programs from the Mpc 2500. I have only sampled into the 500 one time just to check it out....so needless to say I don't spend to much time in the recording section of the 500.

My only concern with the 500 is the 12 pads. If you download a 1000 program that uses all possible 64 pads, you're going to be sucking salt with the final 16 sounds.

This is true, you will be lacking 16 sounds on a full program from the larger mpcs but in most cases you should be able to come up with some pretty hot stuff with only 48 pads/sounds.
