Exchange tips and tricks for the Akai MPC4000

Before the the FLAMES begin due to another redundant question... I need some help... I've spent the last day and a half reading to all the post in the 4000 forum (never posted before)... tried them and I'm still confused... ADD's kickin in.

I've spent the last 6 plus years using the MPC2000 (and the past 10 w/ the SP1200 ever since it was blue)... anyway I have a rack of Zip Disk stacked up... approx. 65 plus (mpc wise... over 300 floppy DDS for the SP)... I just recieved my new 4000 Studio A customized by Bruce Forat (they laced me, pic coming soon)... (customer service was incredible... you need to def uck with them)... and I'm ready to go....

I've always saved my projects/snd's etc as APS files never as programs (exclusively)... therefore... loading my prg's... is not an option (i dont have individually named ones)... can someone school me on tranferring my files... and file maintence.... I have a USB Zip, cd-roms etc etc etc... I basically need everything as functional as possible.

In return I am willing to forward the "Whose Looking PDF" from my manager and publishing co in hopes to help you get placement... I will include any submission you think fits the genre along with our package, if it's presentable. Past clients and placements have included Blu Cnatrell. Mya, the Dogg Pound, Amerie, Britney/Madonna, Beans, Infamous Mobb, Trag kadafi, Rama Duke (from bs Chirstiam Killian flick), Ms, Dynamite... the list goes on.

Bruce advised me to go back in my MPC2K and make seperate prg files for each APS file (approx. 20 songs per zip times 65 disks... you do the math)... I really dont have that time (althought I type this long ass post). I'm still gettin to know the Programs/Multi's/Parts/tracks etc.... the basic functions I understand... If the "Whose Looking" barter doesn't float your boat... I have outboard gear to trade (no focusrite or really high end gear, but sonically enhancing).... or whatever... snares, kicks, hats, stabs, everything... whatever your looking for.... and if your in the VA/DC/MD area... thats even better.

Only serious and knowledgeable help is needed... sorry I can only help those who help me. If not... I'm flying out to LA and visit Forat for classes. I need assistence quick fast, and time is of the essence (and my 2k is actin real shaky)... My fault about the grammatical errors... hopefully you get the point... I need to be up and running by next tuesday.

PS - if you don't have your publishing straight.... do that... it's easy.

You got no choice
Its small things to a Giant

you can either scrap everything you've done thus far and start a new or convert everthing over a period of time if sitting down in one session is too much for you. I had this same problem when I switched from the 2k to the 4k also.

how do you do your multitracking? It would take you just a bit longer to record those beats from the 2000 into your multitracker than it would to convert the files... maybe it would be easier to just multitrack the mpc and SP beats rather than convert them. This way you can discard your SP and MPC2000 and start fresh doing all your new stuff on the MPC4k

Usually I track to my 2480... then export the wav's in to pro-tools... The problem is... I really need to have them at my disposal... theres a lotta ideas (that are revisited)... that weren't finalized... and I'd hate to fly in changes to existinig ideas (step editing is easier for me, shit... copy seq is even better)... The one thing I've found is it's always the track you did three years ago that people are feeling now... and you end up scrambling for a disk you cant find) S!ht... I listen to my catalogue and I always find somethint to be changed... I just want everything consolidated and at my disposal... 80gig vs 100mb... My goal is to fill that up... and be formattin another one...

I appreciate the idea... hit me with an email.

Stay Safe...
