MPC2500 MIDI Fantom X6 issues (MIDI LOOP)

Hey Guys,

I just got off the phone with Roland who is claiming an issue I have been having since I got my 2500 is the new MPC's fault. They believe it is a new setting inside of the 2500, this makes sense to me cause after he mentioned it I can't recall having this issue with my old mpc 1000 which is now sold.

So my setup is, MPC 2500 master, Fantom slave I press a key on the fantom and the note hangs indefinately. In the past replacing midi cables seemed to help, but not today.

Please help, has anyone had or heard of this issue? I am going to check if there is new firmware I think I'm on 1.22, but dont remember how to check and I am unaware if there is a new firmware version out. But like I said Im going to check.

Any help is appreciated.

The MPC 2500 has 4 MIDI OUTs. Are you using one of those OUTS just for sync with no other MIDI information being transmitted to that out?

Hey Jahrome. My setup is..

A out to Fantom In
1 IN to Fantom Out

I did also have 2B linked to my M-Audio FW 1814, but I disconnected that and removed the MIIDI sync settings for trouble shooting purposes. (physically disconnected and blanked out settings.)

So right now MIDI Sync is off and off. For MIDI my settings are ALL channels Soft Thru = as track. Sequence change by prog off and pad to internal on.

oh and I wasn't sure if I was 1.22 so I updated, now I definately am. Not sure if that's for better or worse.

When your MPC is connected to the Fantom, try turning OFF the Fantom's local setting. I think I remember hearing that it can create a MIDI feedback loop.

So they keys transmits info to the MPC and the MPC tells the Fantom to play notes....versus the keys sending info to the Fantom's sound engine...this being sent to the MPC..and the MPC sending the same info back to the sound engine...or something like that...creating a loop.

Yup I hear you. It's called Local Switch...it's off. Roland checked my fantom settings so I should be spit shined . What else can I try?

Have you tried fooling with the MPCs SOFT THRU functions?

Yea, I get nothing on all except...

OMNI-A gives me the same issues + I can hear a drum over lapping from one of my other tracks when I hit a key, so sounds like the channels are meshed together..

OMNI-AB same thing...
OMNI-ALL same thing

As Track is my normal setting, on this the note just hangs, there is no over lapping channels....

Anything with C or D was not working, which makes sense.

Are you using the Fantom's sequencer? Or are you just using it as a sound module and the keys as a MIDI controller for the MPC?

yup fantom just as a sound module, mpc as my midi master sequencer.

have you tried disconnecting all cables except the MPC out to Fan IN, then re-try these procedures?

Yes, I agree with dablunt. I would try that and report your results.

Yup guys, thats what Roland had me do as well. I had all disconnected except the MPC to Fantom. Then they had me pull, I think the IN cable Fantom side and press a key...and it was still hanging (something like that)....

It's frustrating cause I got other MIDI cables, but now im getting same problem no matter what I do and can't play most of my beats.

It's only most cause it seems like lower octive keys are having the issue. So certain beats I have with no bass line aren't having the issue.

FYI, Im on hold for akai. Should I downgrade the firmware, do you guys think it could be a software setting in the 2500 like roland suggested?
