How to connect three synthesizers to the MPC?

There are only two MIDI inputs on the MPC2000XL, is there a way to get three synths connected assuming that I have a mixer so that the audio of all three synths are connected to the mixer?

Daisy Chain.

Just use the MIDI thru on one of the synths to hook em all up.

MPC:MO->Synth1:MI->Synth1:MT->Synth2:MI->Synth2:MT->Synth3:MI

MIDI Thru copies info from the MIDI In, so that this should work.

Then You'll need a mixer to hear all the stuff.

what midi thru does is make it so you can use differnt midi devices on the same pathway, whether it be a or b

what you can do is have synth1 on channel A-5, and synth2 on channel A-3, and synth3 on channel A-16

if you are a sampling beatmaker, chances are you arent gonna be using all 16 midi channels on every synth/sound module you have. the "midi thru" port just makes things a whole lot more flexible when you're sequencing

Thanks guys. That brings up another question. What is the disadvantage of recording something like a straight bassline from a Microkorg (using the audio inputs) rather than using MIDI to do it as well? Basically, what is the disadvantage of recording audio directly from a synth rather than having it hooked up with MIDI?

see what happens is you record the audio, then realize that you want to make the piano sound into a harp and should have just left it as midi.

Yeah, I know that. Other than that, there is no disadvantage?

I'm just wondering, because I see all these guys with like, a billion synths, but the MPC2000XL only has 2 MIDI out ports.

you have to utilize MIDI THRU i have my mpc controlling a korg trinity / roland vx5050 and my PC i use the PC a thru device .. it seems really hard to master .. but once you get into it its really easy

I use a Motu 8 Out 8 In midi interface, it's a good tool to have in the studio
& it takes care of all my midi routing

and just to be clear, the only way you can use a multi-channel midi interface such as the MOTU one mentioned above is by having a computer and sequencing software like digital performer, protools, logic and the like. these interfaces hook up directly to your computer via usb and will not work with an mpc directly by itself.
