digital I/O

how would i go about sampling with the digital input? could i simply hook up some rca's to my cd player for instance and record through the mpc or is there more involved?

basically

you just need a digital coaxil cable instead of an rca one....the hookups look the same

Digital I/O from CD player (little orange looking rca jack) to Digital I/O of MPC.
Then Put Record to Digital signal, that's it.
I use a Monster RCA cable when I do this it works fine.

alrighty. so i definately need a coaxial, not just for improved sound quality, but for it to work completely? because ive tried recording with regular ones and all i get is static and popping noises

Digial cables are shielded to eliminate interference and try to keep the cable on the short side- 3 meters or less.

you can sample fine with analog cables as well.
