Hi guys -
I have the MPC2000XL and recently I've been wondering if I should upgrade/downgrade/whatever to a MPC3000LE or MPC2500.
But at the same time I've read somewhere that the ASR10/mpc2000XL is a deadly combo - why exactly is that? what's the reason that this particular mpc is so great with the asr?
So i'm wondering if the asr would help my production - I guess people use it for sampling only? how much better is this machine (sampling wise) compared to the mpc?

alot of questions - sorry.

Check the features on each one and see what you need for your production.

Any mpc w/ the ASR10/triton/motif/fantom is a deadly combo.

what's the reason that this particular mpc is so great with the asr?
See above

ASR10 can sample itself digitally, can sample while playing a sequence/song, can sample/record/play simultaneously to a scsi hard drive.

Plus it has about 50 effects that you can shape your samples with or an audio input and if the memory is maxed you could record two tracks of audio if you had to.

If I've understood it right the effects of the ASR-10 beats the hell outta the EB-16 effects board which is optional for every XL.

You can't really compare the 2 effects in those machines imo...

The EB16 isn't made to stand up to the big boys our there, it was designed I believe to be in a inbox/mpc 2kxl/2k solution.

Yes, the ASR10 has way more effects than the EB16 does.
Big boy effects....... :?

I bought it on day one, and I would rather have it than not have it.

imo

75% of them people don't kjnow wtf they want and let others influence/taint their decisions.

20% of them have actually used bigger and better gear but are still comparing this little card to their bigger gear which is plain silly.

10% of them have actually used/owned/worked with bigger and better gear. They also understand the use of the EB16 and can actually work/tweak the EB16 if/when needed and not have a problem.

and add the 5% who we haven't heard from yet but we will, maybe one day, lol.

having any efect is better than not having em, because you can use em as "ballpark" effects while you're composing, and then remove them when you track out and use better plugins or outboard effects. ie, apply a reverb in the 2000xl and then apply a better reverb instead when you track out to your daw. just remember not to resample cuz taht's destructive - you're getting the idea of what x sample would sound like w/ x effect, not settling on it.

you can get all the ASR-10 effects with the Ensoniq DPS 4+ for half the cost of the outdated keyboard...the optional EB16 board sucks dik

Because it's old doesn't mean it's outdated. The asr has some functions mpc's don't have and can only enhance your your beatmaking experience with an mpc. plus it's a keyboard. you can play your samples out more effectively with that benefit! Have you even used an Asr-10? I've said it before and i'll say it again, combining an MPC and an ASR-10 is an enhancement to your MPC experience!

The feel of the key action on an ASR is splendid.

in what way do you use the two together?
the Mpc for sequencing?
wouldn't you loose some of the asr's capabilities? (would it transfer pitch bends and so on?)
