Hey i have a mpc 60 and i sample from a vestax portable turntable i use a rca cables to sample but i when i sample from rock bands espically prog rock it gets really distorted, so when i sample its really distorted, i check everything but nothing seems to really work, i can sample jazz without interference, so im guessing its those cheap rca cables? will need to get those 40 dollars monster cables? or will i have to get an output boost? o ya my gain is on mid, and my rec gain is full level while my vestax volume is low and theirs still distortion. thanks again

You need to mess with your REC LEVEL when you sample. If you see any exclamation points (!) then it will distort.

Is the output of the turntable a line output or a phono output?
if its a line output it must be ok.
if its a phono output , the highs and the lows would be messed up!

so, you will need a mixer to boost the signal up to a line level.
its a RIAA preamp i guess.
Peace!

when youre sampling loud rock records, youre clipping the signal. make the source volume(TT) high, and lower the rec gain on the mpc. Try sampling on different rec gain to see where you can get the loudest sample without too much distortion. If you're still getting too much distortion, try with the gain switch on low. your samples wont be as loud, but cleaner.

HEy man its a line output! i tried with just speakers with my TT and it sound clear but when connected to the mpc it gets really distorted, i tried everything did almost every combination of rec gain and mid to low gain and it still sounds distorted, i notice when im sampling it automatically gets distorted even if thier are no ! when i sample, very wierd =\ to me it sounds like to much sound is coming throught the mpc or somethin

I found out that not plugging in the white cable in the line output makes the vinyl sound much clearer then before, alot clearer
