Should i buy MPD24 or not?

the pads are so sensitive and the velocity is so precise, that i have developed a technique to make my hats swing better than an mpc without touching ANY swing or note shifting functions..

What software are you using as the mpd24 has nothing to do with sequencing just a midi controller. I question cuz the mpc is a sequencer?

By the way I`m using mine (mpd24) with Live 6 and Logic Ultrabeat sequencer and I have no swing like my 4k or 3k so I ask what software you are using and give tips on it?

i know the mpd 24 is just a midi controller.. as far as SW, im xperimenting with this technique in FL. im kind of bad at explaining things, so bare with me..

for those that dont know, FL allows you to quantize. you can shift the notes around and have them play at different velocities to achieve a swing effect.. or you can use groove templates (including MPC templates).

here is a BASIC example of that..

but with the MPD24, i program my hats and drums raw; without quantize or shifting things around...its all in my fingers and how i trigger the notes.. i can achieve a swing effect easily with this controller because of the pads on this unit are amazing (the pad sensitivity and velocity is the key).. no other pad controller ive used was able to allow me to achieve this..

i havent perfected it yet becuz i havent fully gotten used to the pads, but im getting there.

So I get a better picture now that FL sequencer is tight with great velocity response and that your midi response from the mpd24 is timely. So you have the mpd24 set at which pad sensitvity settings? And what sampler are you using on FL?

I use impulse drum sampler on Live and EXS and Ultrabeat on Logic but on Live I use a negative Delay input to get my triggering tighter with the pads.

FL's sequencer is really good.. the response is amazing.. ive been tryin to get cubase to respond the same way but so far no dice.. as far as the sensitivity settings, i havent programmed my own settings in yet. so the settings im using are default.

people look at the step sequencer the wrong way.. many use it like Reason's Redrum sequencer (clicking the step buttons).. but FL's sequencer can be used in many different ways..

as far as the sampler that im using with FL; im using Battery drum sampler, Kontakt and Directwave..

@batteryboy, i will do a vid as soon as someone put me on to what kind of vid they are using to make the beat making vids.. i bought a canon c340 digi cam that takes pics and vids, but the quality of the vids and sound is bad..

word, you can just right click and go to piano roll to sequence just like reason also.

you should try guru, its pretty dope.

i'm thinking i could create on the mpc, then use it to control the sequences/mutes. i could get a pad controller and program it to address at least 16 tracks in my sequence and play the pads using the controller while my mpc is doing its thing in next seq or track mute. i dont have the proper gear at the moment to test this idea... so im asking you guys if this is possible to do?? if so i may try to get a mpd24.. everyone is always talking about defeating the mpc with these pad controllers...it just occured to me that they might actually be useful in conjunction with a mpc. its always been taboo for me to think about my mpc and other pad devices at the same time.

did anyone else's ship with this so called "classic akai drum sample library" or something? i kept reading about it, but never recieved it. just the disk with uniquest and the bfd lite disk.

i was having a proper drama with mine, unable to get it to control the faders in the sequencer i was using so i changed sequencers and am loving the machine!
