I think in order to freak your equipment to the maximum you SHOULD get to know it's technical pros and cons intimitley so that you can develop workarounds and shortcuts if need be and you are hardly EVER backed against a wall due to functional limitations. If you are not familar with that then you are subject to alot of future grief.

Exactly...that's way I said: "...at some point...", meanning that you have to care about the specs, but don't spend all of your time careing about them. I don't know how to explain this, but the basic idea is this: On one extreme you have people who care too much about the specs. On the other extreme, you have people who don't care at all about the specs. And in my opinion, the best approach is to be somewhere in the middle, preferable a bit closer to the ones who care too much about the specs.

" ... So, making music is more about creativity and the creative use of what you own, rather then trying to get the best equipment possible. "

Exactly - small means of making big things happen, rather than the other way around.

" ... I hope that now you understand better what I meant in my first post."

Sure. Rock on. 8)

I second that. Among the first things I'll find out with the 1k once I get is how much 100.000 events/notes turns out in reality.

when i started this topic i think people totally forgot about my questions and the fact that i didn't say anything at all about making hip hop music. you only assume this because the mpc is associated with hip hop. so. what i need answered the most is does the 100,000 notes refer to per sequence, song, or what?

thanks

It states what it is in the 2kxl manual so I'm pretty sure it's in the 1k manual as well.

i cant answer your question exactly but i can say that ive been using my mpc 2000 (not xl, has 100,000 notes) for like 4 years now. Ive never, ever had a problem. And ive made some complex beats. If i had to guess the 100,000 refers to events in a sequence. just a guess though

I think 100.000 refers to the maximum number of events in memory at once. You can probably use all of them in one sequence if you want to.

abunchofsounds wrote:can some1 tell me if i'm not wording it correctly because every1 says the same thing over and over or not the answer i'm looking for. i need what 100,000 events refers to, as in loaded at once, per song, per songs loaded or what.

Why don't you just try it on your MPC? At the same time it will give you a good idea hom much it takes to get to that limit.

that's the thing, i haven't bought one yet. this quuestion goes with the decision whether or not to get the 2000xl or 1000. i originally wanted to get the 1000, but when i then considered the kind of music i would make i wanted to be sure that the 1000 could handle it. but i think i'm gonna just go ahead and grap the 1000, there are a few ways i can get around it's short comings and i love all the features it has anyways.
