hello, I have read thru the last few pages of posts and saw several topics about the digital outputs....I have a audiophile usb soundbox and have the capabilities of recording using the digital output on the mpc....I was wondering, would this improve the quality of the recording at all? I am currently running out of the stereo outputs on the back of the mpc into the stereo inputs on the audiophile...thanks for everything, yet once again!Jimmy.

You will get improvement in the quality of sound and louder volume

Digital to digital recording will not make the quality better or louder.
What you input is what you will get output. The information will be transferred in 1's and 0's. You will not LOSE any quality.
I also have the option for digital on my soundcard. However, I prefer to route it through a mixer all analogue connections into my soundcard. I let my soundcard handle the analogue to digital conversion. Just sounds better to ME.

ok so...improvement or no improvement? haha

Yes, improvement. Improved in that there will be no noise added from analog cables or DAC/ADC converters. Also note that the volume control does NOT effect the digital outs...they are always at Max. Which is GOOD, because you can use your PC to scale it using floating point (32 or 64 bit precision)...you're reverbs will thank you :D

it depends on what youre using in between the pc and the soundcard.

passing the mpc's outputs thru maybe a neve 1272/1073, drawmer 1969, UA1176, etc... these boxes are really gonna inflate the sound in a good way usually.

recording the mpc's outputs thru its spdif out just passes the signal uncolored. that is a very good thing if you are looking for that. i almost never am tho ;)

have fun boss

peace
