"Directory or File could not be created..." error via USB

I am getting this error repeatedly when trying to load samples onto the mpc1k via USB from my XP box. I am forced to reformat the CF cards and reload *all* samples when this occurs --which is frequently. It does not appear to be related to the specific files I am loading (I have gotten the offending files to load successfully previously). This error occurs when loading to both the included CF card, and the SiliconTech 160Mb card that I bought to replace it.

Anybody else see this? Hints?

I would really love to make some music at some point... Grrrr...

so, this is interesting...

tried transferring the files from another computer, and this one (Win2K) gives a different error message, instead telling me that the "Device is full"... WHICH IT ISN'T. Right Click -> Properties shows that I've only got about 8mb of samples on a 160 Mb CF card --*lots* of room available.

The interesting thing is that I can recreate this error on 2 different CF cards of different sizes...

Another update...

I had been dumping all the files into the root-level directory on the CF card. As part of my troubleshooting, I tried creating some subfolders and loading those up...

And there no longer seems to be an 8Mb ceiling to how much I can load.

Moral of the story:
From here it looks like there's an 8Mb limit to the volume of the root level directory in the CF cards.

Workaround:
Create subfolders.

Don't know if anyone else has bumped into this, but it's a recreatable error here...
