simplest option = plug it into a PC and delete the card like that (you may want to copy the contents first to your PC  )

cheers!

I think you´ve mixed up the terms here. The only thing containing default sounds on the MPC 1000 is the internal Flash RAM, which is not a hard drive but a electrically independent RAM memory. On startup the contents of this flash RAM autoloads unless that option is disabled.
You can either turn autoload off, keeping the default sounds stored there but not loading on each startup, it will not eat up your working RAM.
Or you can replace the default sounds with your own by clearing all samples / program from memory apart from those you want to use and save the entire memory to "internal".

Good catch... I didn't think to realize he was refering to the internal memory... yes turn off the autoload... but if you want to "get rid of the enternal memory you have to save something in it to erase it... I like to autoload all my hi hats... their cross platform and always go in my beats... So I save them to my enternal memory... (with the auto load on) there small files and take 20 seconds to load... always there for my access without thinking which ones to get...
