Not sure if anyone's seen this.
http://blog.wired.com/music/2006/12/akai_apparently.html#more

Is Akai upset about this? Has anyone been sued? Nope -- apparently, Akai is a fan of the new operating systems, even though they're getting cut out of the $30 fee being charged by these programmers. The replacement OS's make Akai's hardware better, so even though they might be losing sales of the 2500, the company apparently figures that overall, these software writing parasites are beneficial to their bottom line. It sort of reminds me of the alligator getting cleaned by birds -- everybody wins.

Has Akai publicly recognized the JJ os? Just curious... this blog didnt site its sources.

it makes sense that akai 'wouldnt mind' jj as it were. they do F. all and get increased 1k sales.

$30 per person is chump change compared to the margin on a 1K.

i dont even want to guess at their margin on a 2500..........

depending on how much their deal with interlink is for the FSR technology on every model beside the mpc, the mpc1000 could very well make them the most money per purchase. i'd love to know how much each machine costs to produce. i'd also like to know what company akai bought the 1000 pad technology from so i could firebomb their corporate headquarters
