JJ worked on the MPC4000 OS in the past?

I got this comment on my post about Pong. Does it mean anything to anyone?

"What always amazes me is that "JJ" is lauded for this "hacking" work that he does on the 1K, yet he was the same guy responsible for **** up the OS in the MPC4000, something that Akai take a lot of flak for. Hero & villain, go figure !"

A few months ago when JJ surfaced, I suggested that JJ was a ploy by Akai to do the same as Roland..and that is to charge for OS updates.

1. MPC software belonges to Akai
2. JJ is selling software that uses Akai's source code
3. Akai knows about JJ
4. Kids do the math..
5. JJ, Akai, Roland....are all in it together to sell more drum machines...I respect they hustle

Except I'd happily pay $30 for an Akai OS upgrade.

Why not? I paid $30+ for a DSI Evolver upgrade.

If you are using a newer MPC....you have or you will....

Judging JJ by what's been added to the MPC1K, more power to him. Like almost everyone else, I'm very happy with the relatively small fee for continued support.

you buy the hardware,then, protools upgrades seem to be running
at around 75-100 dollars a year,if ya wanna keep yer software up to
date(but then they drop "special"upgrades(like the"producer"pack for
500 bux.....)

if JJ group was involved in the 4000,i bet they could drop the 4000 grid edit
into the 1000.....and maybe even seperate the sequencer from the
sounds(more flexible when integrating with external sequencers)-

i guess what i am meaning is being able to play multiple programs
on the 1000 from an external sequencer-and address 2 midi outs/and or channels per track.....
and having the 1000 sequencer playing,as well as having protools playing
the 1000's sounds(example:i like to sketch in the 1000,bounce the midi tracks into pt for further editing WITHOUT recording any audio-leaving the 1000 as the only sound source,until i have the arrangement more developed,at which point i will record the audio-)
i dunno how much sense this makes as i just smoked a phatty-and am gonna bust out a track with all these fresh cut ELP samples......

True!

Although, Digidesign does not have bugs in their software. When you pay for an upgrade, you pay for more features or compatibilitly. Before purchasing, the buyer is responsible for checking the compatibility-"F"ed up but true. If Digidesign claimed their software or hardware is compatible with your system and-later-does not work. This would be the company's fault and reason to receive a free upgrade or return it. As far as Akai's situation. Paying for a new OS without or with fewer bugs is not good business. This could lead to a market crash or corporate take over form their competitors-like Roland. Every corporation's goal is to gain money and that is achieved by winning the customer.

I personally perfer the MPC2500 over the MV8000. Although, there are few who will challenge my opinion. If there is an Akai hacker fixing the current problems of the mpc OS. More power to him/her! That's less stress on Akai techs. No dead lines and saves the company $$$, for fixing the current OS. If you noticed, since the birth of the JJ OS, there has not been an Akai update for a while. I truely believe Akai's goal is to win the customer. Since it has new owners. Without Roger Linn, the company is on autopilot....

haha i just have to point out that akai updates were rare BEFORE jj too, i don't see this as evidence of anything but akai's incredibly slow response to large software problems

and in fact, there have been 2 AKAI updates for the 2 newest machines since the appearance of jj

There are users that would beg to differ. However, since Pro Tools is known as 'the industry standard' users just accept its limitations.

The 1000 was really a piece of crap until Akai released OS 2.00 earlier this year. It was a major improvement that made it more powerful than the 2000XL (which still costs more for some reason ). In these forums..rarely did users cry about bugs..instead, most threads were about why spend double from an MPC 2500 when you can get the same features for half the price (1000).

And as an MPC 2500 user with the Akai OS 1.22 installed...couldn't be happier. But with the upcoming JJ OS which adds a few features that I have wanted for some time, I will mos def pick it up after the bugs are ironed out by the 1000 users.

With a "so-called' 3rd party working on their OS...they can focus on their next MPC...

What do you think the next MPC will look like?

Can't really be much cheaper than 500, so...

Top end to replace the 4k?

Maybe a PC/Mac hosted one using a 16 pad midi controller as a dongle?

Maybe it will not be called an MPC. Akai may change the name-something like the, "GaGaGaG-UNIT!". Whatever the case, the public will want it. It will have to be attactive to the naked eye. Something that will make us want to sell our soul-somewhat like the Christmas "Sony PS 3 Massacre". Probably with a bigger screen, usb, including HD and a VGA option. Basically, I believe it will make the MPC 4000 look like a peice of shit...

If a highend MPC is released to replace the 4000, I seriously doubt that people here will be beating down doors to give GC $3000 plus dollars. Only thing you will read about in these forums is "Why can't I have that feature in my MPC. Lord JJ please help us!" However, I am personally keeping an eye out for a new high-end MPC. I will buy one immediately. I am running out of things to say about the MPC 2500 and need a new conversation piece
