I am aware what it does...the VS recorders are the last things I would use today. Remixes? Naw, there are plenty of software alternatives that are much better..no track limit....better editing functions to include full screen graphic editing....

whattup people.. I am a person who has had a chance to mess around with a lot of different equipment due to both my line of work and my personal love of beatmaking and digging. That said I must say I love the MPC2000. It was my first MPC and I loved the way it felt.. the swing, the pads, the sound (although the 60-II and 300 sounded best). I loved the JOG WHEEL!! Akai why did you get rid of the jog wheel?? Thats one thing that kinda turned me off about the XL. I moved into working more with software, Fruityloops 3, Reason, Logic with various plugins and midi controllers.. I got deeper into creating using Logic/Reason 3.0 and I'm loving it. All was good until i happened upon the MV8k! I resisted a lot at first bcz I am and always will be an MPC man. I hated on the machine. I saw a lot of my MPC brethren converting to the mv and i would be like what!!??!! Two of my homeboys who were mpc fiends copped mv's and started puttn me on to what it could do.. I met a couple roland people thru my job (I sell both mpcs and mv's, also keyboards software, studio gear etc) and I was floored by what the MV could do and how it sounded. The fact that it can hook up to any color monitor and mouse via the optional vga it nuts!! i hated squinting on those little screens and on my FAV MPC, the screen was bound to break and mine did.. Sampling and chopping are a breeze. It Has a nice 40gb hard drive. You can Import direct from CD or sample from vinyl, then resample, add effects, time stretch, etc. 8 Faders for Mixing. I miss the versatility of the 16 level on the MPC tho, the MV has a similar function. Master and burn audio to a CD. Most importantly, the built in sounds sound amazing. The Built in Drums and percussion BANG HARD!! Nice kicks and snares, claps, etc.. Its easy to build yor own porgrams and it reads all those old mpc2000/2000xl floppys u got laying around. the synths, basses and other sounds are classic roland sound. I could go on and on but i won't.. I'm not saying one is better than the other, I'm just saying give it a try and see for yaself.

Why come to the MPC forums and ask people to compare another piece of gear? I never understood why people do that. But as jahrome and others have stated both the MV and 4k have their own good and bad points it all depends on what you want.

I promised myself not to get into a mv vs 4k cuz like someone said it means nothing to anyone as there is no right or wrong only opinions ...buuuaaattt I got nothing better to do....

Zo in a quick perspective :

from a Professional stand point : the 4k walks all over the MV

form a Bedroom producer all in one package stand point : the MV walks all over the 4k

from a live pa stand point : 4k

in NO way are these bad machines, the MV and 4k are on another level compared to smaller akai mpc 's and roland mc and sp's, these two are the top dogs of the sampling/seq game

akais got way better synthesis and sampling + 24/96k

rolands got way better FX, and their infamous varios real-time- timestreatching + 8track HDr w EQ

so it all comes down to your mentality and studio (what you prefer and what you need)

cuz in this case there's NO way one machine going to do better music that the other, (you can fight over swing/feel and overall sound of the units but as always its the mind behind it that makes the music...

I'd love to give the MV ago but I'm extremely fulfilled with the 4k, and have no interest at all to start all over on a different platform after 5years of learning the 4k in and out, + I could not live without the in depth sampler and 24bit96k sound quality anyway... and its got an endless fields of creative freedom for you to grow and experiment...

Now if you have a computer (and who doesn't in 07)
you can get full blown DAW to run w your MV /4k and in vst land you can get anything you want, realtime-streatching/pitching, FX, all the VST + HDR... the works!
and luckily MPC4000 is extremely pc friendly. the akaysys lets you transfer data very easy, drag samples straight on to pads and use your own sample editor, the ADAT lets you bounce 8 tracks digitally into the pc (to b recorded or processed by any vst's you want) even the simpte came in handy in a studio the other day when midi wasn't syncing so tightly with the DAW...

its just so pro and sounds so good, I'm even starting to mix (when I have nothing else) on the 4k running each pad (sound) though the triple filter with notch and EQ's type filters...

as for the MV, it looks cool its kills as a all in one box, got some great features that should have been on MPC from the start like pad hold but even as great as that FX section sounds I'd still be very surprised if anyone could make a finished hit ready for mastering on it unless used with other gear... but its a pretty bold try by Roland, they even threw in a mastering section before you burn your CD .. but in the real world its not quite like a real mastering suit.. but give them credit, the MV has balls!!!

And the 4k is not perfect either but run it with live and some nice studio kit (the 4k can carry a huge load on its back, and becomes a very solid center /heart of your studio....

if your preference is the MV then hurray for you!, may you make fat beats and dope tracks for as long as you bang that b.tch

I'm w the 4k and I'll do the same ..... P)

yea glide that was put together very well. After that just said i feel the debate should be over. Mv or 4k it dont matter if you suck youll suck on no matter what machine choose to learn to use!

Owning both machines I disagree with the MV coming up short in a live situation. But more importantly both machines will deliver whatever is in the programmers imagination.

Cosigning with young_keyz... it's about the person controlling the machine.

I also believe more customer pressure is needed to get Akai to update the 4000 OS. Grande Holdings should be killing themselves to keep MPC users happy in that respect.

They should also make the wordclock , extended midi , and smpte i/o options to make it more affordable.

You don't have to convince me about the benefits and advantages of DAW'S and related music software. I know full well because i'm my constant contact will all types of software that i use and sell. But just from meeting so many people who do not want to deal with computers. A lot of people do not own a computer powerful enough to run software efficiently, even if they own one at all. They may lack the knowledge or patience to deal with certain things regarding software and prefer an all in one unit. Just my lil opinion.. everybody has one u know the saying..

A cheap Dell computer is plenty powerful enough to run software DAW. Just add an additional hard drive for recording and an USB audio/MIDI interface and you have yourself a workstation.

The thing i like about the MV (and the MPCs too for that matter) is that it has the workflow boxed into one machine. With a daw you want a good soundcard and some sort of midicontroller, and you use shortcuts on your keyboard to control the programs.

Why not have it all in one box and all in reach with the dedicated buttons and designed software without the possibilities of gettin viruses and keeping your pc in shape?
I use my 1k more or less as a stand alone unit except from mixdown and recording live instruments, and with the mv i could use it as a standalone without a doubt (if i like the feel of it, havent tried it yet).
