Help on setting my synth up???

I just brought a Microkorg for use with my 2500 and i cant figure out how to listen to my drum sequence while recording my keys over the top and being able to hear them too?? Do i do this all through MIDI? If so can anyone explain in easy terms how because i've been through the manual so many times and it's **** with my head.

Do you need a sound module for a synth??? I've taken the midi out from the synth and put it into the midi in of the mpc and the outputs to my amp then set it to midi but when i press the keys nothing sounds????

MK Midi OUT > MPC Midi IN
MPC Midi IN > MK Midi OUT

Make sure the MPC track is set to "type:MIDI" and the output is set to "Midi:1A". If you press pads on the MPC the Microkorg should now make a sound. Also, you should be able to use the Microkorg keyboard to record midi on the MPC.

Midi does not carry audio signals, it only carries instructions to play audio (ie. play note C#3 at a certain time etc etc.)

To add to that....

also make sure to match the midi channel (1-16) of the patch you want to play on the micro korg to the track on the mpc that you want to use to play it. But if you're not using any other synths or modules, I guess it should always defaults on channel 1.

i tried everything you guys have said but it still doesn't sound?? Any more suggestions? when you click mode then midi what settings do i need other that wich track im using. i don't know what the other on/off functions under midi are or do?

i've just had a thought do i need seperate speakers for the outputs on my synth????

With that said, try this:

MK output > Soundcard Input
MPC output > Soundcard Input
Monitor from soundcard

OR...

MK output > MPC input
Turn on "Input Thru" function
Monitor from MPC

I hope that helps. If not, be more specific on how you've got everything set up

...btw, i'm assuming you've got the midi connections set up properly as Rozzer and Indijinous already explained it

i've just tried that but it made no difference thanks for the help though.

This is how i have set up in detail

midi out from microkorg into midi in mpc
midi output A from mpc into microkorg

Set type to Midi Program:off Midi:1A

Active track: recieve all
Soft thru: omni all
Sequence change by program change: off
Pad to internal sound: on

On The Microkorg settings i set the midi channel to 1 of 16

When i plug my headphones into the back of my microkorg and hit a pad on the mpc or pess a key on the key board it sounds through my headphones. when i take them out nothing sounds at all apart from the metrenome when pressing record.

Is anything there affecting why it wont play properly through my main speakers??

because the sound comes out of your korg and not your mpc!
you need a mixer to combine the sound of your mpc and the sound of your korg to here them both

for you that would be:
mpc line in 1
korg line in 2
and the mixer out into your speakers

Better yet send the MicroKorg audio to the MPC in and press the Input Thru button.

That would be a nice tight setup. I used to have an ms2000r and MPC2000. They sounded well together.
