I did a new test with this time with four samplers and accurate results. The sampelrs were S1100, mpc2500, mpc2000xl, mpc1000. This test is about the AD and DA capability of the samplers. The test process was made in two steps:

1st)
Source: Commodores record, Technics SL 1210, Pro-Ject phono preamp
Record: AD Sampler
2dn)
Playback: DA Sampler
Record: AD Digital recorder

Facts:
1) Source was playedback at the same amplitude level in all tests. Source recording (AD Sampler) was made at -2db peak in all tests (there is a small error margin).
2) Playback at full velocity. Digital recorder at the same record gain level in all tests. Sample playback main out level was adjusted to reach -2db peak in the digital recorder, in all tests (with a small error margin).

There are four samples in the pack (from 1 to 4), each corresponds to each sampler, and the original sample to compare with. The original sample was a Source to AD Digital Recorder direct record.

Before revealing the results (wich sampler is wich sample) I'll wait for somebody to comment on the sounds. Any preferences?

UPDATE:
I've revealed the results in a post below. And added Akai s6000 to the tests. You can download the pack with s6000 here:

(attention: this file has the samplers name assigned to the files, so if you want to ear before knowing wich is wich use the other sample pack)

I like tests 1 and 4 the most, but it is more just some kind of a sub-feeling than spotting a real difference. I would not be suprised at all if those two were the 1k and 2.k. Thanks for the test

very very hard to tell ! all i can say is that i have a strange feeling coz the spacialization of drums in sample3 isn't the same as others. otherwise i' m not qualified too tell, i have no clue. hope sample 3 is not my lovely 1K lol
( i was listening with a headphones akg K271S coz i guess it depends also on which gear you listen). can't wait for the results.

These samples are so close to me that it really doesn't make a difference. All the samplers color the sound a bit with the exception of sample 3. It colored the sound the least of the samplers.

Minimal difference I would say.

I've just added akai s6000 to the test. Download the new file (akai_test03.zip) to hear.
http://www.zshare.net/download/akai_test03-zip-7b3.html

The samples are:
Sample01 > mpc1000
Sample02 > mpc2000xl
Sample03 > s1100
Sample04 > mpc2500
Sample05 (new) > S6000

The differences are hardly audible. After listen carefully I could only ear a clear difference with the s1100, wich sounded stronger in the higher frequencies. After doing frequency analysis (with Adobe Audition) and comparing each sample with the original sample I could notice a difference with mpc2000xl too, all others looked the same. I could rate the samplers like this:

mpc1000, mpc2500, s6000 > completely transparent sound (equally), what goes in comes out
s1100 > slightly high passed (higher frequencies sound louder)
mpc2000xl > slightly low passed (lower frequencies sound louder)

i could also hear a slight low pass on the 2000xl
i think the s1100 and the 2000xl sound a little more raw then the rest.

thanks for the test
