What ways do you guys record with pro tools?

What is the best way to record in Pro Tools(in your opinion)?

me ima bouts to order pro tools soon but this kid name kool sha (shout outs) got this way that if he told you you could understand more but he dont use midi at all but he records everytrack by its self and later on puts in in song format on the computer than doing it on the mpc. i played around with computer programs so what he says its tru cause as long as it is the same bpm in which it is its gona match up easy.

I use Pro Tools with 001. I can answer all of your questions, but you need to be more specific.

LoL, I really meant to ask if there were any special ways that you recorded vocals and the instruments. Yeah you press record, lol I know. Like on the vocals, to make it sound good, do you record the same verse twice to make it sound fuller????

A lot of times a producer will double the vocals. But the vocalist must be good at it. Emenim is a good example of someone who is very good at doubling. But its not really necessary to make the vocals sound 'full'. It gives the vocals an interesting sound, but what really makes vocals sound 'full' is using a high quality preamp, a nice vocal mic, and the right compression and reverb. Those are the most important things for getting a good vocal sound. Doubling, is more of an artistic decision. For other things like acoustic guitar, I will use a stereo pair to give the sound more dimention, but thats different than doubling. You can always record something with 2 mics for a stereo image, and if you dont like it later, just mute one of them. Most rappers do a main vocal track, then, normally, up to three additional ad lib tracks that accentuate the main track. Sometimes, if it sounds right, one of the ad libs is a complete double of the main vocal track. Be careful - not many cats can double their vocals with good timing. Some guys make their bad timing work for them though. Silk the Shocker is a good example of that. 50 cent is another one. I ALWAYS have the artist do adlib tracks. It takes a good, distinctive voice to stick with only one vocal track. The a-hole I've been working with for the last four years has one of the most distinctive voices in rap - ever. Still, he rarely uses only one track. 9 out of 10 rappers will want more than one track.
