zip drive installed, mpc keeps asking for floppy..

Hi, i just installed a NEC Z100 ATAPI ZIP drive in my mpc2000xl, but the mpc keeps telling me "no floppy drive", and does not see the drive. All lights on the drive are working, the drive is set to slave (but same result with master setting) but to no result. I tested the drive and cable on a pc and they work fine. Is my mpc broken ?

1st of all, what operating system is currently loaded in your Mpc? It should be the latest one, v1.14, if I remember correctly. If U have an earlier one, try updating the OS on your Mpc.

(Remember always to back up your excisting OS, so U can downgrade in case of problems!)

Another possible problem could be the brand of your Zip drive, NEC. The Mpc can be very picky about what brand of drive it will recognize, so if U have a chance, try installing an Iomega manufactured drive. I've had internal 100mb Zip, 250mb Zip and 750mb Zip in my Mpc 2000XL, all Iomega, and all worked without problems.

OK, since no one else has answered correctly, I will try.

Set it to master.

It has nothing to with it being an NEC drive since that is the brand that installs from the factory.

Ahem.

Turnamat did say that he'd tried it with the jumper set to master too..

Anyway, I bought my Mpc2000XL fitted with 100mb Zip, and that drive sure wasn't made by NEC. Every single time I've heard somebody have a problem with internal zip not showin up in 2000XL the prob has gone away by using only Iomega drives.

Set to master or single. It can't be slave cause there is only 1 device on the chain. Make sure the cable is actually good, test it in your pc to check. And make sure that you have the cable connected correctly, hopefully it's keyed and child proof.
