Exchange tips and tricks for the Akai MPC4000

Sam Ash is the worst.
When ever I walk into that store there pushing another shit box.
Last night this guy was rippin apart the MPC4K to a customer. Swearing by the MV8000. Lying through his teeth saying the MV was 24 bit, and that it reads all Akai cd's.Lucky I was there to set his straight. I understand they have to make money, but this guy was over the top. Not that it matters, but if he took the time to read the specs, he would see its 16 bit.
This only pissed me off because how many people has he turned away from a 4k, its a better product. They didn't even have it in stock.

Which Sam Ash? Sounds like the one in Hollywood? I hate to stereotype, but knowledgable big chain music store reps are few and far between. You've got to do your own reseach BEFORE you step foot into guitar center, sam ash and what-not.

It didn't sound like the one in Hollywood.
Them fools wouldn't even lift a finger to help me out.
They told me to try it out and come look for someone if I intended to buy it (MPC2kxl).
Musicians Friend got my money instead.

And also dont always believe the Magazine reviews......They always favor the companies who spend more advertising dollars with them. Everytime I step foot into G.C. or Sam Azz....People listen to what I'm talkin about and start askin me questions like I work there. Too many washed up Musicians who think if they work P/T it'll give them more time to do music..when in reality that Extra time is spent doing Drugs in alot of cases. I work F/T in Telecommunications and at this music production....Got to go full steam wit both and sacrifice learn and use what you learn to make things happen.

I love how they have opinons but don't own the gear.
One time I was looking to buy 2 Avalon 737sp's, dude told me I shouldn't waste my money on a Class A mic pres, that they make no diffrence. At that point I knew he must be saving his money for fruity loops and left.
Sweetwater got my money.

I agree with you guys totally. These dudes at sam ash are a waste of human space. I can't tell you how many times I had to correct someone working there. How can you work with these machines day in and day out and have no idea how they work or the features they have. One day I went in there to by a longer turntable cable with ground. First they tell me they don't make em any longer than the one that comes with the turntable. Then they try to sell me a turntable pre-amp, so that I could use two cables, one from turntable to pre-amp and one from pre-amp to 4000. This would therefore make it longer. I told him why would I want a turntable pre-amp when the 4000 has one built in. He had the nerve to tell me it doesn't. I just gave him one of those dumb looks and spent my money elsewhere.

That is the silliest thing I have ever heard in audio.

The guys at Sam Ash down here in Charlotte Ask me Questions when I come.in..... I own a studio but how in the hell do they not know shit about products when they do nothing all day but live with them..... Do you know that reps are allowed to take certain keyboards and items home to learn them..... All I have to say is SLACKERS but as long as I know...I don't care because I always swindle them into getting my price lower than anyone.... but for the most part I go to Sweetwater...They look more expensive but will give you the same price Sam ash does plus you get great service..Those guys send me Christmas cards....and actually call to see if I need help setting up what I just purchased!! Cant beat that with a stick..
