Drums and layering......

Im completely ig'nant when it comes to layering drums. Can somebody please tell me how this is done and why? How does it affect the final sound?
I want to make my drum sounds tighter.

Im not understanding what you want. Can you go into more detail???

i layer by using a couple kicks and a couple snares when i want something more beefy.

for me : stacking means i want more punch on an acoustic kick (or i wanna 808 electric kick that doesn't sound like a preset) so i program them both into a grid with one hit. layer up as many individual tones as i want and then sample that one hit.

from there i've got a somewhat unique bass kick and it will have whatever tonal characteristcs i wanted (roll-off, rimshot etc.)

if you mean layering individiual hits, go to program, zone, hit the pad you want add a deep bass kick with a higher kick, tune them to perfection

Rinse and repeat, dont go to far with laying shit, cause when your first starting out you have the tendancy to make kicks that are wayyy more powerful, and snares that overpower your song, but its whatever works in the mix in the end

Some kicks and snares come fat enough some need somemore power, and if you find you like the sound of your drum sound you just want it to thump harder just compress it, layering is for adding to the sound
