Timing Question????MPC 2000NONXL

Well herez what i do when i record a beat...i make the sample fit as many barz as it takes to sound right...i dont use the metronome or timing when i do record....one day i was messing around with the timing and when i record wit the timing on it totollay screwz everything up...am i using it right??I want all my kickz and snares at the right place

well you really should have the metranome going to keep up with the tempo of the sequence. you should set the timing to 1/16 to begin with. Damn..... how many bars are you setting this sequence to loop at??? go with like 2 or 4 bars if your just starting. Maybe this particular sample wont fit as is. Maybe you should chop it up and freak it or find a new sample.....

10 bars? What's the tempo? Like 50 BPM's? You have to remember that not all things you sample will be in a 4/4 measure also...

10? Okay... most music that we make, is in 4/4 times that means 4 beats to four bars. So common sense would dictate you would make 2, 4, 8,16, 32, 64, patterns. That means that you would loop them into "phrases". Thats how you should build beats. 10 bars makes no kind of sense whatsoever unless you have another 6 bar pattern to make it 16 bars. If you dont do it like this it will not come out right. 4 clicks on the metronome mean 1 bar. 8 = 2. 16=4. hence 4/4 time.
