MPC and iPod

Okay, I don't have an iPod, but I was curious...

If you were taking the MPC on the road..cand you didn't want to lug your laptop with you...couldn't you just load up samples saved in an iPod? Would the USB read each other correctly? Anyone try this?

No can do. USB is a master/slave type of interface. Both the iPod and the MPC are slave devices. There is no master in that situation, meaning neither device knows how to take control of the other and say "Hey, send me that file".

Now, someday, there may be a way to connect a hard drive inside the MPC (do a search in this forum)...there is space for a laptop-sized hard drive inside, just not a standard connector! Gotta wait for Akai to sell it

It's just to use a jack (headphones out) to stereo plug, is you want to sample the stuff you got at your iPod. No problem.

Thanks, I was trying to find an excuse to buy an iPod. Those things are sweet but my mini disc suits me fine.

There is a way to do this I think, using the following product:

It was designed for storing digitalphotos on your iPod but I dont see why it wouldn't work for the MPC. Of course it wouldn't use the usb but the CF instead

Hybrid, that's not the same thing, it's just saving the photos... there's still no Master device to host between the two things... but you can get an audio plug that has a 1/8" stereo adapter on one end and 1/4" plugs on the other and have all the songs you want to sample on the ipod and carry them with you and sample... it'll be like having tons of crates only thing is they'll be in a digital format... mp3's.

I never bought an ipod either, too trendy for my taste, I had a samsung Yepp since a long time ago, it's only like 32mb and I still rock it anyways, it got a built in voice recorder too...

My Bad, your right TC. But it looks like all that is needed is for the iPod software to be improved, cause the hardware is there. I mean if you can transfer photos why not waves, programs and sequences?

iPod can already take any file type. but it's all mute, cause iPod is Firewire, not usb!! ...unless you buy the conversion cable.

It works with firewire, because in firewire any device can be a master.
