tip thread

i seen a tip thread in the production forum so i thought id hit up 2500 users. ill start wid a pretty basic one

chop shop is all good but if you want a much tighter feeling chop the samples manually. and always leave a lil extra sample time b4 and after the part u are chopping so if u need to bring it bak, or push it forward, u always have that extra bit of sample time to work with. also, smaller the samples, the betr the timing, usually. not always.

Ok, well, I'm new to the 2500 but not to MPC's...one trick I've used in the past on the 60, which i'm finding useful also on the 2500 is as follows...

When chopping, for the most part, we like to use our EARS as well as our Eyes...(This is by no means a New trick...just one i've found helps so if you already use it...push on...)

Tuning the sample right down & hitting its pad will allow you to hear how much latency there is btwn you Striking the pad & the sample actually Sounding.

Do this...

Hit Mode>Pad 6 (Trim)...

Now with the Cursor on the Samples Name Field, Hit Window...This'll open up a screen within the Sample itself that will enable you to tune the Sample down by 2 octaves I believe (-24 Semi tones or 'Keys' if you like)

Now hit Close & get back to choppin, editing the sample...

when you're satiffied your points are good...just hit Edit & extract or Discard whatever you like...

Then re-tune the pitch back to Zero by hitting Window on the Sample name Field & Reversing back to +00.00 tuning.

Yea...that's one thing I noticed just a while ago, when I wondered why a certain sample sounded different on the MPC compared to my PC player. You can actually save this "Tune" parameter with a WAV file. But only certain software (like the MPC's) actually uses it to tune the sample. Others will play the sample at the original tuning.

thats the great thing with these MPCs...you'll always find something new to do on it...people just need to not be afraid to play with em...

Just a few hours into having played with it...i figured how to do Tempo changes within the sequence...Very EASILY...something that i could do on my 60 but no way near as easily...

not really an MPC tip, but this weekend I was running my sound through an insert channel with 3 nomad blue tube compressors on it. it sounded excellent.

I love the Fact that you can also Edit Start n End Points using the Q1 & Q2 Sliders whilst depressing their respective 'After' Buttons...

A little Crude but a good tool to get you into theZoning ball park right?!!!

sit on your arm until it goes numb then jerk yourself off, it feels as if someone else is doing it

it was funnier when i read it the first time, but you managed to kill it, Manilla.

stereo widening:
Load up a sample and copy it so you have two versions of the same sample , load them on seperate pads.
Then pan the first pad hard left and the second on hard right.
Now go to trim mode and select the second sample and adjust the start position to something like 100.
Now play the two pads together.
If you like it , resample.
You can adjust the start position while the mpc is running so move it till it sounds right.


Another little trick:
If you assign a filter to a sample and record filter automation with the slider , you can use the after button as a sort of "Filter ON/OFF" button.
If you press the after button it will go to the slider position and stay there.
Can be usefull in a live performance.

I could get it to work over the weekend, I kept hitting myself in the face.
