Best Way to take drums out of the sample

This has probably been on many MPC users minds and has probably been asked many times.....but.......what is the best way to get rid of the drums off of the vinyl that you are sampling?

Like let's say I am sampling Jazz or sumthin and want minimal drum samples and just the horns/pianos/guitar......what is the best way to minimize the drum sounds without losing the instrument sample?

I am using a DJ mixer with your basic Low/High/Mid knobs....any preferences or suggestions on where to set them? thanks

I don't know of any good trick at doing it other than looking for breaks in the song when the drums aren't there.

Or, a lot of the early stereo records would do stuff like hard-pan the drums L or R, so you could always just use the other side which is drum free.

As far as EQ'n it out, just use your ears and see if you can bury them a little.

If I'm sampling something that has drums in 'em, I'll at least try to grab the sample on a beat, so the drums on the sample will blend with my own drums. Otherwise dude, i dunno ...

parametirc and shelf eq. I got some advice from a cat on here, and I've been messing with it. I had a string sample that was almost clean xcept for the drums and some hats on it. I ran it thru 3 sets of parametirc eq's then used a shelf eq to roll off the low end at the end of the chain and it worked nice. it was real tricky since I didnt want to lose the low end of the strings, basically I just dialed them in until the hats were gone then I dialed out the drums. it took some time but it was worth it, the sample kicks alot better then before I equed it.

I usually EQ out some low end using a 30-band EQ.. that takes out most of the kick punch, and bassline if there is one (assuming I don't want it). Then I run a multiband compressor, and really squash the signal around the kicks.. then I gently EQ out some mids and hi's to dampen the snare and hihat.. basically, you can't remove all drum sounds, so try to layer your own on the sample parts where there are hits, or use them in your sequences (using a kick as a ghost hit is cool)

your pretty much **** really if u dont want to layer drums over the original drums. eq is gonna do more damage then good, you'll end up taking out the character from the part of the sample u like.

i just select and delete the drums (snares most of the time)
