Installing the Hard Drive

OKfellas... got the hard drive in the mail.. Ready to install...
I unscrewed the single screw in the front, pulled on the front panel, and it seems to be attached to more components.
I heard it's really easy to install a hard drive on these things.
I cannot find a post on here that nails that topic in a step by step manner. The search on here is too cluttered since there are so many posts. Plz point me in the right direction.

there are instructions with pretty pictures in the HD kit!

unscrew the 3 or 4 screws on the bottom of the unit near the front, the really obvious ones.

HD kit goes into the bracket on the right

put the drive into the bracket, tighten down 4 screws

slide mount into slot, tighten down with 2 screws.

put it back together, enjoy!

Yeah...that's pretty much the instructions. It shouldn't take you but like 15 minutes tops. Yay for no more CF cards!

I got a third party HD. No kit or anything.
But I guess I shoulda. Looks like I'm gonna need some enclosure...

There is a space for a hard drive on the left, not the right, but the space is larger than the hard drive itself, and the pins are fewer. What did I do wrong?

What do I need to get this up and running on my MPC?

I read the manual.
And still after my first week with the thing, I feel like a lot of it was left out.
I didn't know that I would need to buy a USB cable, a shell for the HD, extra RAM, an extra memory card, input cables and more stuff. The JJ OS is great but that too has shtty documentation for the free version. This thing is getting to be a burden and it would be a lot easier if AKAI addressed all of these things up front. Even the index of the Operator's Manual is very vague. Funk.
Wish I didn't have to keep coming back and asking questions. If only this were easier to find out.

sounds like you bought the wrong drive, only certain ones are OK to use.
contact the maker of the adapter on how to install it, what's the name of the kit?
Check the akai site for into on what drives to use and which hard drive kit to use.

You don't already have a USB cable to use?

or you can just look in my signature regarding HDM10 (hard drive adapter). there is only one manufacturer for the kit. but the drive has to be a 2.5" IDE drive. look in the sticky to find out what drives work.

Sparq, your YouTube videos have been helpin me out a lot. Good look - you should make one for this question, cause it would have helped a lot.

I made sure that the hard drive I ordered was compatible by checking the list in the sticky hard drive thread. I had no idea I had to order a bracket though. Thanks Sparq. I couldn't find it in your profile, but I just ordered that HDM10 mounting kit.

I still think it's a bummer that this machine is pulling out the cash, but I think it's worth it.
