Not having to haul all my gear to the studio

Of course everyone has their own preferences of doing it, but I use a Roland VS-1680 to track out my beats at big studios (at Windmark and at MasterSounds in VA Beach). It's recorded in digital and it stays digital during the transfer process. It's no bigger than the trusty MPC 2000XL and I got a carrying case for it. Easy to use too...

Can you describe the process when you track your beats with the Roland? I mean do you do your own mixing and then just two track it or do you give the engineer all the seperate tracks and let them do the mixing?

Not to get off the subject but you're killing me with the Cardinal hat. CUBS RULE!!! Anyway, I've track out my beats using the digital output on the Roland. That way I can transfer my beats into any DAW. The studio I did this had a Pro Tools set-up, so the engineer digitally transferred everything and took it from there. As far as separating each track, we just transferred one at a time until we got them all in Pro Tools. Gotta love midi sync baby.

i've been looking at that AW16G for a while until this badboy hit in the same price range!

i know it doesn't have the loop or sample triggers, but 24 uncompressed tracks : that's tight in this range.

that's the one thing i'd advise against the older fostex/zoom/korg recorders.

HD Recorder will either record in LINEAR mode (uncompressed 16/24 bit) or use varied compression techniques which sacrifices the sound.

i had my finger on a $400 Fostex until i checked in a little deeper. i think most of the units are moving to LINEAR but don't count on it!

If you were to get the aw16g, why would you even need to go to the studio? you have everything u need right there. to me that seems redunant to go to a big studio, when you can get the same thing at home.

may i suggest if u do get the aw16g.... spend like another 3 hun, get some studio foam, you can get a good condenser mic for like 2 hun, if you got a good walkin closet, tac that foam to the walls, and get down...... hit me back if you want more tips.... peace & love

ahhh, crushed. for real : thanks for the tip.

what's the deal? i listened to that 788 and thought it was OK but lacking on the dynamic effects the aw16g has.

at that price somethings gotta give i guess...
