syncing my 1000 into ableton live 5

How do you sync my beats in ableton live

im not sure if this is the only way but after trying to get this working for two hours, i finally figured it out.

first, live is kind of buggy. i use logic and live and find myself moving more towards the live direction just strictly from a workflow/mpc integration standpoint.

im also using 6.0.1 so not sure if that matters...

but on your MPC you need to go to the midi/sync options and shut off the midi in and make sure out is set to on. then in live, you need to click the button on the toolbar that says EXT, that means live is getting it's midi clock from an external source. then go into preferences (i dont have it in front of me, sorry!) and make sure that ONLY the midi port from the MPC is set to sync and remote. turning things on (i think its default?) that arent getting a sync from an external device will confuse ableton for some reason.

so basically you're setting live as the slave and mpc as the master so to play and navigate around your track, you have to use the mpc controls. hasnt made a difference to me and its been the only way i can get the two to sync without sliding off within a few seconds.

Live - options ->preferences -> midi -> set the OUTPUT PORT SYNC to ON where the mpc is connected.
- next to that port is a triangle, click it to open clock properties.
- on mine I use -50mS delay to keep everything in sync
- use MIDI clock

do as mission says on the MPC, set sync IN to ON


OR


- SYNC OUT on the MPC to ON
- in Live set the INPUT PORT SYNC to ON
- Hit the EXT button at the top of Live.
- Hit PLAY on the MPC to get Live going.

I'm not sure about the clock delay setting when the MPC is master, I slave my MPC to Live.

In the options->preferences->midi page turn on as few of those boxes as you can get away with, it can bog things down.

yes, the midi sync in Live sucks, but I love Live anyway. I can sync my MPC for hours slaved to Live.

tone you got live working as a master no problem?

i wonder what my problem is... my interface is good, proper gear... i dont think i knew about the sync compensation for midi tho. ill have to check that out.

I stand corrected, I tried it as master but I believe every time it would play at TWICE the bpm, it would even follow tempo changes but play at 2xbpm.

So SLAVE the mpc, don't use it as a master. It definitely worked for me like that, actually the last long session I had it running slaved, I was slaved to another guy's laptop, midi went from his laptop running Live 6, to his sound card, to my Remote SL to my laptop running Live, then out to the MPC with a -50mS delay on the midi clock out.
