involving guitar pedals in sampling.

i was thinking of getting some pedals for sound process either before it hits the mp or after, however i'm not sure what i would be needing to make it happen. i mean your supposed to run the pedals into amps right? well i'm not looking for that route, to mic the amp etc.
or is it that i've got it all backwards about usage of pedals?
a little help would be appreciated.

i know there are pedals that does the cabinet modulation process, but the ones i'm looking for dosn't seem to have it.
or maybe i could run the ones without into one that has it?

Typical FX pedals are designed to be used between the guitar and the amp. This is so the guitarist can have live sound processing on stage, controllable with their feet.

In the studio setting, you can reproduce this type of guitar rig for recording purposes and simply mic the amp, or run the FX out of a mixer into pedals and the FX output back into the mixer, in which case you can add the FX pedals to any mixer input.

You can daisy chain your FX pedals; some people like putting certain effects earlier in the chain. If you want cabinent emulation you can certainly run the other pedals into a unit that does it.

The key point to remember is how you chain them together effects the sound, so try out different combinations; there is no correct way for all situations, just certain combos which are better for certain sounds. Don;t worry if it's right or wrong and just have fun with it.
