Zip disk drive won't eject

Yo, I searched the forums but came up with too much generic stuff to find something that relates.

All of a sudden my external zip drive from my 2000xl won't eject rendering my MPC useless. If anybody has figured out a solution to this problem or knows why it might be happenig, please let me know.

It is a bad zip drive. I had to replace my zip drive because of the same problem. Hope you have luck getting it fixed. You can try www.sweetwater.com for service repair.

Some zip drives have a pin sized hole on the front of the drive ... stick a paperclip in there to do an emergency eject .. if you don't have one then you're screwed Your eject mechanism may be bad, or the connector for the eject button, or the zip drive doesnt even think there is a disk in there so it doesn't eject. COuld be a number of things.

Press the eject button and while holding it down, wiggle it in all directions.

yes. the pinhole will usually do the trick.

Thanks for all the suggestions boys...But I don't have no pin hole. I simply took a knife a jacked open the drive..It actually snapped right back into place when I was done.


I really only cared about the disk...Not the $15 SCSI 100 meg zip drive.

So my disk is safe so Im happy even if I can't work tonight...

What are you gonna do? Take what God gives you. Coulda been a lot worse.

I think, for the record, what happened was that I accidently (only for a micro second) pliugged in the power chord for one of my keyboard controllers and and it has 4 extra volts...Not much but apparently enough to screw up an Iomeha Zip drive...It'll turn on...just wont eject..For $20, it aint a bad repair, right? Of course....
