Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

I really dong know how i can record with the MPC. Alright i got a few beats programmed in there as sequences so what i did was connect my MPC to my stereo with a cable that has one end like a guitar cable (the thick one, like a headphone jack) and the other end of the cable is RCA. I connected the thick end to the mono left OUT and then the RCA end to the stereo. I put the stereo on AUX, stuck a tape in and hit record. So its all good, now i got my beats on tape but when i play it back it only plays out the left speaker. Any way to fix that? Also, I used to jam with a buddy of mine who had a sampler. We would hookup my guitar to his sampler, and a mic also. Then we connected it all to a stereo like im doing now and record. Thing is the MPC cant do that. I cant figure out a way to have my beats playing and then also have a live input, like a mic. How can i connect a mic to the MPC so i can record someone rhyming over the beats? And also, wtf is that SMTPE out and in back there? hb

it sounds like you only recorded the left channel...you can converters which will attach on the end of your rca and go into the stereo outs of the mpc...

so just buy an rca to rca and two converters from rs or somewhere like that....works a treat...

You have to know that the MPC is not really a recorder...;it's a sampler and you can only record little time of music in it....many people use the MPC with an external CD-rom drive to load sounds from CD-rom...That's the way i use it.....concerning the SMPTE interface,it is to sychronize music with video images....

Invest in a small mixer or use your PC. INS/OUTS

You can get cables with 2 Mono 1/4 inch jacks and one end, and 2 RCA's at the other. I use these all the time to connect up my Korg to the only remaining channels on my mixer that use RCA.

In terms of using a mic, if you are getting a small mixer, it will probably have Mic in's as well. Most Dj mixers will have a mic in, and a lot of PC soudncards have a Line in, and a Mic in so you should be able to route them all together.
