Post your views and questions about the Akai MPC2500

Hey, I recently upgraded to a 2.5k from a 1k, and I'm noticing something strange.

On the MPC 1000, global settings (such as pad sensitivity and sync settings) were automatically saved any time they were altered. The settings were retained after power down. This was handy, obviously.

On my new 2500, I find that these global settings are reverting to default values after power down, i.e., any alterations I make are not saved. Pad sensitivity reverts to 9 (or 16 on the JJ OS), and sync settings are lost.

I have noticed, however, that these settings are saved when I do a "save programs and samples" to the internal memory.

I've tried this with both he newest Akai OS as well as the newest JJ OS...same problem...

Please tell me I don't have a lemon MPC. I can live with it if all 2500s are like this. I just can't handle any more MPC woes after all the pad issues with the 1k....

Did you set it to "Autoload?"

By poopdeck Fri Jan 12, 2007 4:16 am
Yeah, I've tried it with Autoload both on and off...same situation. It appears as though the only way to retain your settings is to save them to Autoload, and have Autoload on...

Correction: It doesn't matter if Autoload is on or off, but to retain global settings, you must save (overwrite) to the internal flash rom either "all seqs and songs" or "all programs and samples". Which is kinda lame. And not how my MPC 1000 worked.

At least this is how my MPC 2500 works. My question is: Does your MPC 2500 also display this behavior?

I'm afraid I have some sort of bad battery or something...

The reason you have to overwrite the internal memory is because its set to Autoload stock.

Do you have a MPC 2500 shrednar? Or are you just guessing? As I said before, I get the same problem whether it's "set to Autoload stock" or not..

Strangly enough, even if Autoload isn't being used (off), saving to internal memory is still required to retain system settings.

in the time that i've had my 2500 i've never noticed my global settings go back to the default.

whenever I change my pad sensitivity/velocity they always remain the same when i fire my 25 back up

I don't have autoload set on at all, infact I remember when I had autoload on my settings would always revert back to default which was a pain in the a$$

I understand what shrednar is saying, I just don't know how to explain it in a way that could help you out.

Do I have a 2500? Lol! Thats why I usually dont help people like you. You act like a smartass when things aren't spelled out for you. Yes I have a 2500 and I KNOW how to keep and save my settings. You dont have to save over the internal memory. I would help you out but you had to go and try and be a smartass. Hint: Has to do with autoload and another saving medium. Good luck, though you might just want to get rid of your 2500 and save yourself a headache. Seems like its too much for you.

shrednar: Sorry, that was not meant as sarcasm or disrespect. I really wanted to know if you were guessing or not.

Autoload is most defiantly _off_ on my MPC. The only other medium I can think of is the internal memory. But of Autoload is off, the internal memory is ignored, right?

As I said, I had a MPC 1k, for over 2 years in fact. I don't remember it working like this....

My 2500 saves and loads global settings alright, with no Autoload at all.

Okay. Sorry, I lashed out. If you save to the internal memory you will have to load in order to get those settings back. I have all my settings saved to my HD in and autoload file. Then when I power up, everything is as it should be. I believe if you turn off the autoload the internal memory would be ignored. Is your 2500 new? Does the MPC load the sounds and sequences? If so, obviously autoload is still on. Do you have an HD? If not, use the memory card. Set everything up how you like it, then save entire memory to the CF card and set it up as an autoload file and make sure to set autoload from your memory card. That should solve your problem.....

Yeah, my 2500 is new. Autoload is currently off; thus, no programs, sequences, songs or samples are loaded when I power up. I don't have a HD.

Maybe I forgot to set my brain to Autoload from its internal memory, but I could have sworn the 1k had some sort of settings memory that was independent of Autoloading from internal memory(flash rom), CF cards, or HD.

Anyhow, it sounds like what my 2500 is doing may be a-ahem-feature of the MPC 2500. So I am relieved. Aside from pad settings, which I would prefer to set and forget, other settings, such as sync, actually do make sense to be saved with projects.

Thanks for the help you guys...back to work for me....

Yeah. All the 2500's I've used work this way. The first thing I did when I got mine was go through and set everything up how I wanted it and set it to Autoload.
