Sampling from computer

how do y'all sample (record to mpc) from your computer?
what kind of connections do you use?

OUTPUT on PC(where u would plug your PC speakers or headphones) to MPC RECORD IN.

So in that case more than likely you would need an 1/8 to 1/4 cable. Unless you have a different type of OUTPUT on your soundcard(other than 1/8).

Thanks for the tip, but... see I do exactly that, and get interrupted by a LOT of noise and static.

Why is that?

This question has to be so juvenile, but Jesus I can't figure it out. Either my cables are wrong, or I am doing something wrong, or I need to get a preamp.... :idea: :?: :!: :evil:

try turning the record gain down, it could be clipping which sounds like noise/static.

Could also be some crosstalk. There is a lot of electric interference around computers, especially around old CRT monitors. Check where your cables are routed from your soundcard to your MPC, and make sure that you're not getting any electric interference. You can usually hear this just by moving the cable around and listening to the input on your MPC.

Audio cables, IF they have to cross a power cable, should cross (+) over them and not in (=) line with them.

I use a few ferrist cores attached the to ends of certain cables.

Good cables.

Also, sometimes I use noise reduction in Sound Forge.

Not completely, but I haven't tried all the methods yet. For now, I use the "pad" function of my interface (Mbox2) and it gets rid of a great deal of it.

If you have a memory card (eg. Compact Flash) on your MPC, you can also put your sounds right on the memory card and avoid the extra analog recording process (Digital->Analog->Digital), and preserve quality.

I have a memory card reader on my computer, so I just throw the memory card from the MPC in there, it shows up as a drive under My Computer, and you can copy .wav files right in there. If you have MP3s or other formats, you'll need to export them to .wav and then copy to the memory card.

Recording audio out works, but if you have a bunch of .wav files already on your PC, it's really easy to get them to the MPC using the card.

(Edit) - I forgot, the 2500 has a USB port on it also (not sure about other models) which you can plug in and see the memory card from your computer, when you put the MPC in USB mode. It's basically just a built-in memory card reader, convenient if you don't have one handy.
