taking beats out the mpc

my question is that iam using an mpc 1000 and i have some beats on there that i want to post on my computer but how do i convert them to the computer and convert the file into a wave

first of all, the samples on your MPC are already .wav files. you can send these to your PC over the USB interface.

if you are talking about taking a sequence you created on the MPC, getting that onto your PC as a .wav file, all you have to do is playback your sequence and record the main output of the MPC:

go to RECORD, change INPUT to MAIN OUT, hit F6 and then hit PLAY. easy.

note, this is not the only way to do this, just the most basic.

i tried that but now the mpc is recording the song like its a sample for only 10 seconds i need the whole song

Do you have the 128mb expansion? If not then u wont be able to resample then. Just record it from the MPC to the PC as i suggested.

try changing the record length in record mode. with 16 mb subtracting your samples time you could probably get a nice 1 minute mono beat depending on sample size.



on your pc running win 95

start menu>programs>accessories>entertainment>sound recorder

you will need a cable that goes from 1/4 stereo to 1/8 stereo plug 1/4 into front of mp the other side into line in on computer. and Bamm! high quality recording at your finger tips. good luck and maybe next thing you know Universal will be bangin down your door for those beats

Yeah I'm trying to do the same thing.. Anybody know how to do it with a mac book? And wat equipment do I have to use?

ok, when you RECORD in the MPC, you have to set the record length, it is 10 seconds by default! if your song is longer than 10 seconds, set the length accordingly.

if you have the stock 16MB internal RAM, your recording time will be limited to a minute or something. with the 128MB upgrade you have about 12 minutes of stereo sampling time, which is usually enough to record the whole track into one stereo wav file....

all the above is about recording INSIDE the MPC so you can then transfer the resulting wav over the USb into your computer.

you can of course, as Nicole suggested, simply play the MPC output into the computer and record with the PC. the procedure for recording on the PC will vary widely for everyone involved depending on your equipment and software!

but basically the procedure is the same, for example, here's how on the macbook:

you need a converter cable that does 1/4 inch to 1/8 inch. basically the line outs on the MPC plug into the line in port on your laptop. you go into the Utility menu and start the Audio-MIDI application. set the audio portion to input from your line in jack, and not the built in mic.

then start up Garageband. create a audio track, open its properties and make sure it is set to get its input from the line in. you can choose to monitor this track, then when you hit a pad on the mpc, you should hear it in garageband (visually you will see it affect your levels as well, adjust it so your input isn;t in the red).

now you just hit record in Garageband and then hit play on the MPC. when the song is over, stop recording, then listen back. if it sounds good, great! iotherwise you will need to adjust levels and try again....

You could always take the
1/4" to 1/8" converter, to a 1/8" male to 1/8" male line and stick one end in your phones output and one end in your comp mic in and just record via audacity.

what if you want to record it track by track in GarageBand , Is there a way to get GarageBand to begin recording the moment you press play on the MPC ( so that each track starts at the same time)

if you are using the MPC as a sequencer (you should be!) you can take the MPC sequence file you save onto your memory card and transfer the info over USB into the computer. then you could open it in whatever software you want to edit it with. i'm not going to get specific on how to since it's pretty simple for each DAW but unique depending on the user's setup....

in theory your MPC can be interfaced with your computer as a MIDI controller. you could then map the buttons to garageband so that when you press the play or record it sends the control message to the computer which would cause Garageband to also start recording...... i say in theory because garageband kinda sucks as far as doing MIDI stuff that's not just simple note messages and i've never tried setting things up like this...... check out the garageband forums for specifics......

I believe you have to re-save the seq file on the MPC as standard midi. Then you can toss it into any DAW you want. The samples won't save with this so you'll either have to playback the DAW midi into the MPC or load/assign the samples in the DAW (you'll have to figure out how to do the latter yourself thou).

Better still: use S/PDIF if possible. You get a clean digital signal that way. For synching the MPC to your DAW you could try to use Midi Sync. It's a bit cumbersome, but works fine for simply recording beats track by track.
