Should i buy MPD24 or not?

mine shipped with the same things as yours.. no akai drum library..

what sequencer did you have that didnt work right?

i'm thinking i could create on the mpc, then use it to control the sequences/mutes. i could get a pad controller and program it to address at least 16 tracks in my sequence and play the pads using the controller while my mpc is doing its thing in next seq or track mute. i dont have the proper gear at the moment to test this idea... so im asking you guys if this is possible to do?? if so i may try to get a mpd24.. everyone is always talking about defeating the mpc with these pad controllers...it just occured to me that they might actually be useful in conjunction with a mpc. its always been taboo for me to think about my mpc and other pad devices at the same time. I would say what is most important is what software program you are using the pad controller with.



Sure the mpc has a great sequencer and a decent sampler. However the effects, routing, bouncing into two tracks, and memory capacity of the mpc isn`t its strong point without a outboard DAW which is fine in a studio pro or home based.

I based my pad controller purchase on the fact that I`m using Ableton Live and the program itself is crazy mad fun and definitvity live to use on stage for mashing/remixing. Of course I could you a mpc to do the same thing just I got the MPD24 controller as I a MPC 4k/3k user and those are too much to be lugging around. Plus the Blue LCD on the MPD24 shows me exacty which pad, knob, or fader is being send to where into Live and I understan Live very well.

I can say alot of what I learned with Ableton Live I can do on my mpc as LIVe was based on the MPC.

MY Point is check your Software program first and its ease of use and setup along with the computer too, then choose the right controller for it.


I would bet to say that most users that purchase the mpd24 understand and love thier software programs be it LiVE, Fruity LOOPS, REASon, or others very well.

I point these out as great sequencers, but along with the software samplers that work well with these sequencers Battery, Guru, Stylus, EXS24 and others I haven`t even touch on the Sky`s the Limit.

i was using Samplitude SE V8. Its a free sequencer as i was trying to go legit. i was enjoying the program but having issues using my mpd with it. so i switched to another sequencer and was able to get it to control the mier faders and pan controls but the program was horrible. so now i'm back to my naughty version on Cubase.

i can get it to control the audio faders by setting up a generic remote device but not the midi ones. just need to have another fiddle with it.

and good tips on the hi hat stuff you're doing! i'll try that out!

a quick q about the mpd. if i press mode on the mpc will the corresponding pads on the mpd work automaticaly ?

for instance:

press mode on mpc

press corresponding "trim" button on mpd.

we are talking about MPDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDd here..

i might pick up that pad controller.

how are the transport buttons, do they feel cheap or do they have a nice "pop" that feels sturdy?

they fell just like the mpc buttons.

they are about the size of the 2000(xl) F (F1, F2 etc) buttons.

how do I use battery as a plugin in live. live detects it and the screen from battery appears, but I'm not able to get any sound out of it.

Battery works fine stand-alone.

could someone explain me step by step what to do?

1] is the live is set up with ur soundcard??

2] is the mpd working fine with other VSTi or with Live only.

3] is the mpd set-up done in battery vsti.. mean in Live> battery > setup/options mpd is set up there?

battry works in live if I tap it with my mouse,
my mpd24 doesn't get a signal when using battery as a plug in in live.
I don't know how to control battery with my mpd24 in live.

when I tap on a button or knob on my mpd24 live gets a signal but battery does not

ok for all the ableton heads, i finally wrote a tutorial on how to chop drums up on sampler and i even made a preset for the mpd 24. so check it out when you can and i am sure that if you don't have ableton you can download the demo for free and you can demo out sampler.....that way you can also try out using all 16 pads on the mpd and how quick you can chop drums on sampler.

i copped the mpd24 right before christmas after looking at it for about 5 months, prior to that i was finna go w/ the korg padkontrol.... the akai mpd 24 right now is my baby!!!

The reason i did this was because Pro Tools - Rewire - Reason are the center of my Production/Recording set up and an MPD24 would do the same for MY SITUATION as an MPC would. I only needed a Percussion/Sample controller and nothing more. I have the Keyboard for the melodies, im copping turntables for sampling and i have the sounds via reason refills! Im not big on VSTI's yet as i've barely had tiem with them.

One thing i can say about the MPD24 is that i dont regret the $200 or so that i spent on this. And it sends MIDI data via MMC so i use it as a transport control for Pro Tools, something i didnt even look for and got!

Only dissapointing thing is NO AKAI DRUM LIBRARY, but instead BFD Light which comes with Pro Tools and which I honestly dont use!!!

Depending on your set up, your situation, and your needs, only you can make that decision!!!
