nym what you think? do you reckon you have a potential draft of an email that breaks down the issue, the history, the fix, and the interest in a 'fair outcome?'

what i mean by that is if akai recognised the logical approach of nyms detective work and the feeling in this forum, then said yep we are producing an official velostat pad fix kit it will retail at $29.99, won't invalidate your warranty and we will post a vid or pdf that shows how it is applied then i would be down, as im sure others would too.

i have no idea if this would ever happen, or if i am being hopelessly naive (jj and justin the reaper developer have set the bar too high i guess) but i try to have faith...

lets get a rough draft going so long, highlight a few options and the approach.

Nick will help but in my experiences it comes across stronger directly from the public, if he can help get us in touch with the right people then great,

all i know is that when service partners( VST) complain to manufacturers (Akai) its heard but when a couple thousand customers complain directly its heard much louder.

We all want new pads but if that falls through then it would help if we offer a few of our own suggestions, like a rework kit that can be assembled by VST (they make money on labour, so they also win) or one self ( of course warranty void if damaged bla bla ) and what price range are we willing to pay for the V2 pads ? and or rework kit

So a poll could help get a idea of price range here and the feasibility of a rework kit but of course we striking for the "original" akai pad design first.

I think this should also spread across a few forums to get a bigger voice and run the same poll there, even the quite boards they all help at the end of the day.

I like your ideas.
However, I'm tired of dealing with these pads and trying to come up with new ways to persuade the powers that be to do us some justice. It's taking away from my creative time, especially when I can barely use these pads anymore.
So I may as well buy the exisiting replacement pads (whenever they become available again), sell my 1k and deal with the monetary loss due to Akai's incompetence/carelessness for their customers. Then i'll get back to making music using something more reliable.

Sorry to dissapoint all of you (but we all know where the real dissapointment stems from). I just can't be wasting any more time beating a dead horse when I should be making music instead. That's my New Years resolution, so it's time to do what I gotta do.

IMO: It's not worth AKAIpro's time (they're not enthusiasts with a lot of money - they are business people with financial problems), so don't hold your breath. Besides, they'd never allow customers to service their gear - they could only let you take the mpc to a service centre and have the pads replaced there.

Your best hope is to find someone to design and produce an aftermarket non-Akai-endorsed kit... or maybe wait for "MPC1000 MkII with new, improved pads!" Have you checked the new black ones? Is the pad design the same? Is the sensitivity the same? Do they hold up to your beating? Maybe getting new (not old stock) replacement pads would be a solution (as far as durability is concernd).

i have a black one, 6 months old. so far no problems aside from the 'last bar' button needs a firm press to engage correctly

however it's more the fact that i know the underlying pad mechanism they used on the 1k is very very flakey...

I NEED NEW PADS! I hate my 1000 only because of the pads. Everything else about it is great! I wish I could either trade my 1000 in for a 2000XL, or get the pads fixed for under $200.

Word. Sold my 1000 just because of the crappy pads. I'd buy another one if they fixed the pads.

i have had my 1000 for a year now and the first pad i always assign my kicks to definatly dosen;t have the same feel to it...i gotta really hit it to get a full sound from it. i would agree that this is an issue that should have already been addressed. the 1000 is an increadable machine for the price, but with price you get short cuts....i always expected something like this would come up.....
