I just got a Proteus 2000 and having troubles hooking it up with my MPC 2500. I have the MIDI keyboard coming into "2" and out of "B". So when i record say instrument one when i go to track 2 on the MPC and change the MIDI to 2B it still plays the 1st instrument on the Proteus. I change the channel on the Proteus to 2 also ?.

Thanks

Right, this is how I use my proteus 2000 & mpc.

First I dial through the sounds on the proteus until a find the sound I like. Once I've found what I want I note the number of the patch on the proteus (that number on the bottom left of the proteus screen.

Next I go back to my mpc, set the track to type MIDI and enable the relevent MIDI port channel (1A or similar). Finally I go to the program field and set the program to "No.". When you choose "No." anoth er field comes up with a 1 in it just to the right of the program field, here I enter the number of the proteus patch I want + 1 (so if the proteus patch was 57, I enter 58 ).

The process is then the same for each other intrument but I a different channel (2A, 3A, etc...)

Job done ;)

yepz.

take the keyboard outta the equation.

set each proteus instrument of a diff channel.

set track type to midi.

set track 1 midi channel 1

set track 2 midi channel 2

switch between two and test?

Look for the Proteus manual if you can find one...(I can't find mine at the moment)...look up the MSB/LSB settings for all of the Protues sound banks. You can enter the MSB/LSB for each MPC track..thus you can have easy access to all your patches from the MPC without ever touching the Protues.

first off that is to much dialing, like Jah said use MSB/LSB it's that easy. Make sure you have the midi setup right . keyboard should be midi out to midi in on the PK2,and if your using the MPC as the main Seq,make sure that it's going into the keyboard and so on. The Proteus ID for MSB is 00 and 04. if you have the Manual turn to page 82. there's a chart to sho you how to dial the MSB/LSB numbers in order to use the Banks. here's a link for the Proteus 2k manual if you don't have one. This is a great sound module if you use it to it's fullest.I had one w/the Mo-Phatt chip in it.Mo-Phatt ID is MSB-13 and then LSB 0-4 or something like.

I still find the need to have to dial on the proteus, the reason being that it's all well and good entering a number if you know what you want or cycling through every possible preset if you've got all day. On the proteus though you can select a group such as Bass (bse) or Keys (kb1, kb2, etc) then cycle though the patches in that group. Once you've found what you are after if you hit the audition key the MSB/LSB is displayed on the screen of the proteus.

Try this X2K,seeing that you have everything setup right.

Yeah once you Audition your sound remember the patch or instrument # and MSB/LSB.

So on the MPC it should look like this.

Midi type: Program:1 A1 midi chan. (but in Program:1 folder hit open) you should see Program Change. Transmit should be On:
MSB:13 LSB:0-4 or whatever .(make sure everything is on)

now go back to main Seq Window on the MP, and turn the Program 1-127.
Do this for every track and channel setting up different instrument on their on Channel. Then once your done working on that Song or Sequence,Save all or Entire Memory. So you don't have to try to Remember what you Wrote down all the time Sure I like to dial and audition sounds, but I also don't want to spend alot of time writting down and still have to always dial when I can jus dial a few times and then save the settings,to where all I have to do is turn the Equipment on and then write a track and then Save and be done. It's not that hard to learn how to use MIDI,Save,And Load your Sequence (Midi). This is by far the easyiest way to make music. But.....Never the less ,whatever Suits your boots, jus that's a easier workflow for me and many others that I've helped in this forum. 8)

Yeah, that seems like a good suggestion if you have a nice set of favourites or frequently used patches and one day I may well do that, however often I know I want bass or string or what ever but just want to have a flick through whats available until I hear what I like. All the same thanks for the advice ;)

Or you can use your MPC in conjuction with a software sequencer. I have my Proteus set-up in Nuendo like its a VSTi. Using patch scripts, I can quickly locate any patch/patch types within the Proteus.
