I read everything I should about sampling. The thing about the manual is that it tells you WHAT to do, but does not tell you what each thing DOES. So I still have a few questions about sampling that may or may not have been answered in the past....

I plugged my 2 midi cables to my keyboard and MPC. Everything works fine when Im recording a melody from my keyboard onto the MPC. But I want to know how to sample me playing a chord (or anything) then assigning it to a pad.

Does it have something to do with the Dump option on my keyboard. I thought I remember reading about that. Thanks for the help. Peace

It has nothing to do with the dump option. All you have to do is go from your outputs on the keyboard to the inputs on the MPC. Then go to the sample screen (shift 5) and sample yourself playing the chord, etc. Then go to the program screen (shift 7) and assign the new sound to a pad.

but when i go through the sample screen and ask it to record the sound it says something like waiting for signal. It waits a few seconds then goes to the screen where you rename the sound. I press whateva F button plays that sound and nothing plays. Its not getting a signal or something. I bet you its one SMALL thing im not doing. I juss dont know wha..

thanks for your help though, I appreciate it. 8)

Yo turn the threshold all the way to the left so its off and then turn the time all the way up.
When you set threshold that means it will start recording when the signal hits that mark. I dont like it because it chops of part of the sample. With midi you cant transmite sound, so you need to plug in your keyboards audio outs into the MPCs record ins in the back. I hope your keyboard makes sounds. then sample the chords seperatly. Trim them and then replay the chords with the pads. ex. pad A01 is a Cm. pad A02 is a Dm.

oohh ok. i didnt know I had to plug my keyboard into the record inputs. That may be the problem (i knew it was a small one whateva it was)...

This may sound stupid, but what do you mean turn the time up? Im sure i know what you mean, just not the way you said it.

But i think you solved my problem. My keyboard aint even connected to the record inputs. I would think you wouldnt even have to do that since I can record from it into the seperate midi channels on the mpc! But im still learnin...thanks!! that helped

homie.
by time, he meant sample time. i think that the pre set sample time is 10 seconds but the more memory that you have the longer you can sample for. did you upgrade your memory to 16 or 32 mb of ram? or do you just have the standard memory?
thats what he meant though. sample time.
stay buildin.

What's up good peoples, this is my first post so first let me say that I LOVE this site. Yo, Smoove003 you must understand that MIDI is a totaly diffrent beast than audio recording or sampling. MIDI does not transmit or translate AUDIO WAVE files and this is why you must input your keyboards sound outputs into the record inputs of the MPC. MIDI is a bianary code or a sequince of 0s and 1s that tells the MPC or Keyboard to execute an action like keyboard play note C# when you hit that specific pad on the MPC ruff example 001010 = C# or 001000 = C. When your sequncing on your MPC this data is recorded. This is why weather your using samples or trigering sounds from your Keyboard what you recorded will be palyed back the way you aranged it. Save our self a lot of stress and drama do some research on MIDI and how its used
