I gave in after relentlessly trying to fix my pads and bought newer replacement pads directly from akai just recently. They cost me $7 canadian each, and i decided to do all my own repairs to install them myself since i didnt want to pay somebody like 100$$ to do it. They came to me without any wiring attached, and i had to resolder the original wire connector from the original faulty pads. While i was doing this, i decided i wanted to inspect the new pads to see if there was any difference in build since i got 16 of them. When i did the only thing i noticed was the carbon seemed like it wasnt raised with that silicon rubber cement, but was pretty much flat against the contact but seemed more firmly in place. It appears that there really isnt much difference in the new ones, unless i got an old batch of pads sent to me

anyway, since i replaced them, my mpc is better than new...(and in my case when i got mine new there was problems with the pads out of the box)

wait

so it wasn't raised above? that's a good sign. sounds like eventoff at work.

those will last you longer.

however, i'm onto something that will last 100,000 + strikes, which is comparable to interlink fsrs.

by the time i'm done with this machine, it will no barely be an mpc1000 haha
mod the sht out of this thing...

i would still advise this mpc above any other. don't worry about it. in fact, see it as advantage. keep your eye out for a busted ass 1k on ebay. you'd save huuuundreds fixing it up.

I'm getting one. :)

Especially after this thread. (Oh, and the JJ forum in general)

yea i guess the pads were reasonably priced from akai too...better than ordering from anywhere else, i didnt pay for shipping or anything(ordered through the local music store)

best of luck in your quest, sounds like you are making good progress i hope to see the mpcs fixed for good, enough of akai's b.s.

if akai could sell 3750 mpc, they would be able to make an order from this other company. They could also be replacing the pads of the older mpc1000s for some extra cash also. i think they could definately get an order of over 60000 units. I would pay around 150. maybe we could make akai some more $$$. They could call it an upgrade. and then they could add a laptop battery to it and make more money. oh yeah, i bought my mpc for 810 october 2003. why are they selling for 999 now? that extra money could go to ordering pads, ya think.

pad 13 is dead on mine it wont be fixed until the pads are better. i rather use my kawai r100 to trigger samples.

fk em

they don't care about us, which is why i will never buy another akai product. i've had better aftertastes eating fruitcake, and that sht is terrible

it really speaks poorly about their management, new management, whatever. they simply pulled a REALLY cheap move with this whole pad thing.

ever seen that simpsons episode when sideshow bob's brother builds a phoney bridge and skimps on the materials in order to keep all the extra cash himself so that the bridge would break and crush springfield and the brother would duck out with all the cash?

neither have i. my friend told me about it when i explained to him what akai did to mpc1000 users.

Its been a fact for several years plus that the pads of the 1000 are not so great. Putting so much energy into this issue is counter productive. Not to ruffle any feathers. I really do hope that Akai would do something for people that purchased MPC 1000s....but if that never happens, seriously consider an MPC 2500. If you love the 1000 that much, you will not be disappointed. You can get them for as low as $1500. Too expensive? Well, assign a dollar value to the full size MPCs pads, adjustable screen, 4 additional analog outs, 2 additional MIDI outs, CD-RW support, better/additional q-linlk knobs/sliders, as well as the additional real-estate for less of a cramped feel. Really..sit down and do the math. To me..those hardware olny features are worth at least $500....not too much different than what you will pay for an MPC 2500....

and to those who don't want a less portable machine from the same company that took your money under false pretense, keep making noise
