do you update with each new OS release?

I am still with os 4.23 or something. I'm gonna wait until 4.33 is out before I update to a new one.

Is the internal flash memory on which the OS is written subject to tear and wear as you constantly updatee the OS or not?

Oh, and one more question: anybody kept the complete history of OS releases by JJ? I can only imagine a folder full of .bin files, but how many exactly?

i update nearly every time a new one comes out. don't know if i should worry because of the memory, but 800k erasing and rewriting should not kill a machine in 2007... i hope so!
on my hd i have a folder named os updates. i keep every finished version plus the version befor my last update.
so atm i have 1.07, 2.10, 3.06, 4.15 and 4.32 in it. looks easy.

rise of epc has a forum w/ jj os progression recorded. huge zip of bins.

i remember hearing the flash rom could be rewritten some thousand or so times.

no need to worry, unless i'm wrong

and no i don't upgrade every time.

I have 44 files. I missed 4.28 and the first one which i have is beta 03 (released 2006-06-25).

moderm roms should support at least between 100 000 and 500 000 rewrite. so i guess it is more than all update we could have from jj (or we will have to send him a mail to take some vacation lol).

i dont update immediatly. i am always waiting for at leats one update after major upgrade. exemple 4.30 was out , i waited for 4.32

i have notice that after a big upgrade, JJ always need like two or three update to reach a more stable os .

I update every time a new OS version comes out.

I'm still using 4.21, the last stable build I could use on my machine.

Everytime I update to the newest OS the following happens:

CPU Address Crash Bug (lose all loaded ram, have to reset)
Timing errors (MPC "skips a beat" randomly)
Sample polyphony/truncation problems (While running multiple programs, on 4+ bars, the last sample will always truncate at 2 bars, reminds me of playing jenga)

4.21 doesn't have any of these problems.

i bet your ram chip or flash memory is bad. none of that ever happens to me. just a thought.

I update with each OS....sometimes its hard to keep up with daily bug fixes...then after taking a cruise around the new OS...I revert back to the older OS. During these OS upgrades, I do not save anything to my hard drive. I only use the CF card so I don't have to keep formatting my hard drive.

Could be the flash memory...any idea how to fix that?
it had problems before I got the RAM chips in there.

My MPC is one of the newer black ones.
This is my second MPC because it had what I like to call SEASONAL DATA SPEW INTERNAL SICKNESS. When I got the new one it had the same problem....luckily this bug only occurs rarely....

twice in a row? i bet they gave you the same one back. id complain.

I was there when they switched it...
it's something else, software related. Only happens in a few of the mpc's...

if it only happens on a few mpc's, then wouldn't it be hardware related toO?

if it happens in only select mpcs then software is not the correct answer.
