Would you cop a JJ OS for the 500 and what would it get you?

... which is Standard on all other MPC's.
I'm sure this will come (even in an Akai Update).

You can already select sequence, number of repeats, for each step in song mode.

Well, it does work on the 4000. Quite Essential IMHO...
(and probably not too complicated to implement).

How does the MPC4000 let you choose to mute/unmute tracks when in song mode?

As far as I can tell from the manual, it simply uses any existing mutes that are in the sequences, but does not let you choose to mute them while in song mode.

Well on the 2500 you would convert the song back to a sequence and apply any mutes to the new sequence ,which is basically your song just as one long sequence.

I don't think the 500 records track mutes.

That's not NEARLY as useful as being able to record the mute changes for each step in the song, since you still need to do them manually during playback, or did I misunderstand anything?

by pressing rec you can record the mutes as your sequence plays.

word? i didnt know that , sorry if this was mentioned earlier, i havent been folowing. does that mean that after u convert the sequences into a song u can mute and unmute tracks as the song plays and record the track mutes?

Well this works with the Mpc 2500 not the Mpc 500. If your refering to the 2500 you will have to turn on "rec track mutes" or something like that by highlighting the mute parameter on the main screen then press the window button, this is where you turn on the recordable track mute feature. Once this is turned on you can record your track mutes from the track mute screen.
