to an extent it is...the sound depends on the quality you put in....

you put in schit, out comes schit....you put in gold, out comes gold....

though i do miss the sp1200 sound, i also think that a "sound" should be something you have the option of putting in or not. i dont really like the idea of a machine automatically coloring a sound just because that's what it does. sometimes that's not what you want.

in general the 1000, 500, and 2500 seem to spit out pretty much what they get in, and i rarely even worry about what my 1000 is getting. usually i sample everything from spdif to bypass the inputs so i can utilize what i think are better AD converters in my delta66, but it's all opportunity, really. if i'm sampling vhs, which is most of the time, i run it straight into the inputs and i'm always happpy with the sound. especially because while i'm working on the mpc, it's all about composition rather than "well this needs a boost in the low end," etc. i save all that for later.

gotta prioritize. think about old composers. we are the first people other than composers who have had such great access to an enormous bank of material (in our case sampling, in their case, an orchestra). while they were writing/practicing their unfinished works, they probably didn't yell to the celloist "yo turn up the bass on that"

Personally, I don't see why ppl buy new stuff like the mpc2500. Everything we need really can be found in the 2000, 60, 3000. Great gear.

If you used these older MPCs and then move to a 2500 and then back to the older MPCs..then you will see why. While the older MPCs are great (yesterday and today), the newer MPC is a major improvement....just the MIDI functions and power/speed of the CPU is amazing.

Mos definatley. The mpc's have improved ALOT latley, they are 10 times faster than the older ones, i love working with my 1k because it can do what i want to do without me having to wait for it to process a tiny thing.
And it's so dope that i can nowdays record live instruments directly into my mpc, i always wanted that and now its possible.

It's kind of silly to argue that the new samplers of today doesn't sound good and therefore we shouldnt buy them. If that's your case then you should but some better sounding shit into it.

Now i have to go and make a beat, with some live percussion and some basic high pass filter on my samples to clear some space for my bass. I challange all the retrompcheads to do that only with your mpc
