Organizing projects on MPC2500 hard drive

I've had my hard drive in my MPC for about 2 months and I'm able to save stuff on it, but it is all over the place and nothing is in order. I'm thinking I don't know how to save right. What is the best way to organize my beats on my hard drive? Thanks!

make a folder for your beat. name it what you're naming the beat or something that will help you remember which beat it is. save your project to that folder.

rinse and repeat for new beats.

I have done that, but when I do, the folder is in a spot I don't want it to be, like in my drum section. What do I do about that?

i don't have a HD, i have separate CF cards for beats and samples, but if i did have a HD, it'd probably be something like how it's listed below. also, instead of "BEAT 001, BEAT 002, BEAT 003" you can label it by date "011707, 011807, 011907." i believe that it should put it in order for you automatically, so that your most recent beats would be at the bottom of the list.

Ok, that makes sense. I have my drums in a folder, but there are some of my projects in that folder and I don't want them there. How would I move those? When I save, do I save to "ROOT"?

I don't think there's an option to move files on the 2500 from the unit alone; and I'm not sure if it could be done via USB as I have never tried. But you can just create a new folder for each project, load it each project, and save it to corresponding folder. Then, just delete the old projects. Any don't save to your root drive, things get messy quick if you don't keep everything in order. Create a new folder folder for each new project and save it there.

I do about the same as the others have mentioned.
Samples have their own folder.

Kits have their own folder.

Then projects have their own folder

When I add new tracks or change a project I will erase the old one from the HD ,via usb, then resave it under the same name.
You can move files when it is connected by usb but the way I would do it the first time would be back up all of your files to the computer first. Then move them around the way you want them on the computer. Then send them back to the MPC. Hope this helps a little.

I thought that nested folders werent reccomended???

man jus hook up ur mpc to pc then organise it there like change the name drag the file thats not in the right place also becareful not to make the floder name to long or it might not work i think i had that problem once
