NEW TO VINYL SAMPLING

OKAY SO IVE BEEN SAMPLING Mp3s from my computer for my mpc 1000 but i wanna get into vinyl sampling. Im a starving college student with a lot of inspiration but a low budgetso what are the essentials that i need.

DO i need a mixer with the turntable? Im looking to get a old gemini one for about $45. IS THERE A HOW TO on sampling vinyl into the MPC 1000. THANKS GUYS! ONe.

if your turntable doesn't have a line level output then you will need some sort of preamp.

otherwise you just plug it in and record.

i have an old techniqs turntable, like for a componant stereo, and it runs into a bbe preamp that i got at guitar center for 50 bucks. you could probably find one cheaper. i think the main thing is the needle. im not sure, but i have some 25 dollar sure needle, and then switched to this cheap ass 20 dollar turn table and it sounded way different. but it may have been just me too.

anyway, for the starving college student, here are some essentials:

functioning library card (go pay those fines!) - access to a lot of weird sound sources can be found at your local public, college, and university libraries. bring it back on time and it won't cost you anything....

phonebook - find all the record shops and thrift stores in your area and visit them all, figure out which ones have the best vinyl (prices, variety, whatever you think is best).

turntable - unless you plan to mic up the oldsorry ass paper cup pierced with a needle on the groove while you spin the LP on a pencil trick.......

Crate Digging Section- why are you even bother to read my post, you should already be over there yesterday, finding the answers......

Get a Technics 1200 turntable, there not as expensive as they used to be brand new, but if you buy it used then make sure the pitch slider works correctly, make sure the Left and Right audio channels work, basically just ask the person your buying it from if there's anything wrong with it.

Get a needle made by Shure (44 if possible).

Get a DJ mixer with built in EQ (3 or 5 channel will do). Numark and Stanton make some less expensive models that have everything you need.

Go to Thrift shops, Used record shops, Garage sales, and ask anybody over 40 if they have some old records that they'd be willing to sell.
