Live looping on an MPC1000 ? OS written by jj

Hello,

Would be interesting to know if jj could release an OS for the MPC1000
so that in could be a live looper like ambiloop or other loopers out there

This could be a separate OS which they could charge for.
Or if there is enough processor power included in future jj OS releases?

What’s everyone’s thoughts on this? Would there be enough demand?

The hardware is all there - just needs the software written.
(and we know who’s the best for the job)

yea, that would be nice... it could be something like the pitch shifter mode but for live looping ala echoplex/jamman or a simple delay pedal looper.
I'd pay for that!

you can already do live looping with the direct record functionon individual audio tracks.

You cant do this without stopping the sequencer as far as I know. This is one feature I would love to see though. The direct record is so close.

As far as i know all you have is Track/Truck which you have to stop the loop.... which is kind of in the right direction. but does not do it in realtime.
Yes jam man / echoplex etc... is more like it

It would kinda work like this

1. You set your sequence size to whatever you want .
in the track you would set the size of loop (in bars) according to the amount of memory available.

2. Say we picked 8 bars. Start recording the loop. When it reaches the end of the 8 bars it begins to loop.

3. Depending what’s set in the track we could have a switch that would automatically drop you into overdub mode or not.

4. Also you could transpose the sample via a switch that works in octave steps up or down.

5. Real-time reverse

All tracks could be set up before you record your loop so it could for example....

record loop, transpose 1 octave down, reverse then jump back in to overdub. all in real-time on the fly.

This would all have to controllable via an assignable midi controller.

If anyone can contact jj would you put the idea across to them?
even if it's just to find out if it could be done or not.

adding to what i just said... to clarify the loop recording, a further example:

say you set a 32 bar sequence. The live loop would only record for bar length you set in the track (ie: 8bars) . Once recorded it would repeat the sample every 8 bars for the entire length of the sequence.
you could then record another loop of a different bar length on the next looping track.

As for moving on to another sequence via next seq button - you could set
the looping tracks up prior to this allowing you to continue to manipulate the live loop by the tracks menu switches ... you could reverse it or transpose it via sequence or song arrangement.

I'd pay $100's for this for sure. This would be awesome. Turntable live looping awesomeness!!

If you are playing live w y mpc there are a lot of features that are tp be added imo. Upmost the ability to change sequences after recording anything wo having to stop.

Yeah - thats the - it would be ideal for live looping - turntables, voice, human beat box, guitars, bass ............... everything.
All live on the fly with your regular beats n samples.

simple loop sampling would be amazing. my friend is a fantastic musician and his live shows consist of him just starting from scrtch and building something beautiful.

Check out a singer called K T Tunstall who does marvellous things with an Akai Headrush pedal

While we're on the topic, I picked up a FCB1010 MIDI foot controller the other day with plans to use it to control Ableton Live so I can do looping and VST plugin control with my feet. Anyone else doing anything similar? Thoughts or ideas?

I have been using the S-20 as live sampler.

Instant sampling and looping, reverse button, MIDI control of all functions, etc.

I have it set up so it is controlled from the mpc - looping and triggering is always in sync - I can drop or raise the pitch an octave using pitch bend.

The only thing it is missing is overdub. It is possible, but not very practical.

It can act as a simple 16-part multi timbral sampler as well!

the head rush is pretty good -
i'm thinkin (CPU allowing) upto 4 or 8 mono or stereo tracks at once

i'm amazed Akai hasn't thought of this for the MPC before - all the hardware is already there - if i could get my hands on an MPC that live looped - i'd buy a second one

i'm pretty sure K T Tunstall would have couple as well
