old pad solution discussion - we decide on mail out DIY kits

I am pretty skilled with soldering from making circuit bent keyboards, so I would definately install the pads myself. You'll get 90% more MPC 1000's done if you send the people the pads so they can put them in themselves. As long as there is no actual soldering to the PCB board itself, i'm sure it will be easy enough for someone to do. I'd really be interested in knowing what the pads would feel like first though, too bad about the soldering! You could have a set of pads for relaxed sunday best or a sturdy set for your performance at a club...

Damn, this would make a big difference, those pads are stiff, aches your finger joints after a while. Most likely everyone who voted 3 would also vote 4! Better aesthetics are always welcomed...just thinking about camo pads, or a graffiti piece that spreads across all the pads.

haha yeah, i know. shipping it is not for everyone, esp those who are ballsy enough to do things themselves. power to em. however, shipping it to me will basically make for damn sure that it is put in perfectly as designed. i am competely down w/ people doing it themselves and i will provide proper documentation and how to, but the option is totally there for me to do it myself if they'd rather do that.

remember - i have waaaaay more to benefit from this whole venture than an extra mpc1000, this is about resume building and tech-credit. i want to be the guy who betters the 1k - that pad dude. the prospect is exciting to me.

i suck at soldering so i would probably have to get someone else to do it, but i really would like to be there and get a look at the process.

i'll look into setting it up so that folks don't have to solder/desolder anything, or at least have that as an option so that people w/ soldering experience can cut some extra costs.

for the sake of learning. give a man a fish...

i'm very excited, and really want to put together an enjoyable package - not only to be able to move products but mostly so i can have a top notch mpc again!!!

and thats where my excitement comes from too. the jj os is something that made the mpc more fun to use, so now, i use it all the time and i have one pad going. im sure others will follow. if/when you do this, you are pretty much saving people from buying replacement mpc's. thats how i see it. and when/if mine goes, its gone. i have to many bills to get another one.

keep up with the field studies man. im going to need some custom pads too.

This would be awesome! My pads are slowly dying and my MPC is the centre of my music production. I aslo live in Australia so #3 would be great.

You could create new pads by growing a rubber tree in your backyard...that way you would be able to match the speed of Akai's e-mails

number 3 definetly,but it would be hard for me to send you my mpc,because I live in israel.Is it possible for you to send me the kit with video instructions or pictures of step by step proccess?

my vote goes to #3 diy as im in australia too, and i dont think i'd ever post off my mpc to someone else.

I think it'd be a good idea for you to make an instructional video and put on you tube. Then when you begin to sell the kits, people can just reference that. It would be specially helpfull to those who are weary of DIY and people in diff. countries.

cause i'm from germany.

btw. a single replacement pad cost 30€ in germany (about 28$)
and they dont sell it as a set.(like vst do---- incl. shippin 140$)

if i replace all pads twice i can buy a new m1k.
