Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

I have a 2k classic with the eb-16 board and the 8 output expander. I am trying to record multitrack into a yamaha md-8. I am using both the multi-effect processors and one of the reverb only processors (M1, M2 and R1).
I'm trying to send M1 to channels 1/2 and M2 to channels 3/4. In the fxedit screen I select mix and hit open window then i change the output of M1 to 1/2 and then i go to M2 and change it's output to 3/4. But! and here's where the problem comes in, when I go back to M1 effect edit it has changed from my selection of 1/2 to 3/4. If I change it back to 1/2 and then check M2 effect edit it is changed to 1/2. Do both of these processors have to go to the same outputs or is there something I am missing? I have gone through all 3 addendums to the manual several times over this one and still can't figure it out.

Unfortunately, the eb-16 effects can only be sent to two outputs at a time.
