MPC to replace MIDI keyboard

I understand that the MPC2000XL can trigger sounds via reason, I was just wondering if this is possible as well to trigger other software types, as in instead of me purchasing a MIDI keyboard I can just use the pads to trigger the sounds. I dont have reason nor have I used, so I am fairly new with this mode of production.

MPC has midi out, meaning you can trigger the sounds from your computer if you have midi input on the soundcard. Learn how to use aut-chromatic function on your mpc (search the manual for: auto-chromatic assignment). This will allow you to go up the scale by pressing the pads from 1 to 16 and changing the banks.

ok, I see, so this would basically map the sounds as they do on a midi keyboard?

Only thing is

the mpc has a default setting that has the notes mixed up. It is in general midi "drum map" mode i think, but you can download or create a chromatic program to play the sounds like a keyboard would. So when you plug it up the first time, fon't be surprised if notes aren't where they should be.

They are two different feels. Even if mapped chromatically, I don't like playing sound modules or synths with the pads on the MPC. Even when not on 'full velocity', the attack that the MPC triggers is usually different from standard keyboard 'note on' messages. Compare and you will see what I mean...plus, who want to use two hands to play a single triad chord? Unless you making those beats with a couple of beeps and blips in them, then use whatever you want!
