PROPOSAL FOR AN IMPROVED PAD DESIGN (AKAI PLEASE TAKE NOTES)

a machine that retails at $999 should NOT have ANY pad issues.

i've seen cheaper drum machines/samplers for around 1/3 of the price that NEVER have these problems.

this is a clear case of neglegence!

c'mon AKAI, we are willing to pay for a part replacement ...
replace the PADS on the mpc1000 with a single sheet pad design.

If warranty is an issue AKAI you can ask owners to take the mpc to an authorised dealer for replacement . In turn the dealer has the opportunity to crossell products and talk about other AKAI brand products.

we want a product that can perform with the same quality as your other products. PLEASE stand by your hardware.

And if we decide to change the pads ourselves and void the warranty thats our PROBLEM not yours!

damn I feel kinda bad for not getting on this earlier. I guess it's cuz I'm really one of the luckier ones whose pads haven't gone bad yet, but then again I've only been on this mp since like, last summer.

best case scenario, akai lets all the 1k users send their upc's to em, and mails us all new, improved pads. haha.

like any corporation though, they ain't about to dig into their own pockets to make us happy, you know, after we've already bought the machine and all anyways. whatever. I think the realistic thing is just look for a diy thing. or put money at least into a diy thing.

but if I'm wrong I'm wrong, and Akai, please fix the pads. peace

Wouldn't it be better i we started some kind of web petition? i mean, not really a petition, but just to have an idea of the number of kits that akai could possibly sell.

cause there are many mpc 1k users out there who would definately buy that kit but are not mpcforums.com registered users... that's why i think it would be better just to post a link for this "petition for better pads" on every music forum we know

and let the news spread for a couple months or so

yeah, that's a great idea. in another related thread, i was discussing that with another forum member who was looking to start the petition. i havent heard anything since then. so if you know of any petition sites and want to get it started, set it up and post a link. you can definitely count on us to sign it.

does anyone know how to fix the other buttons? one of mine is starting to act up.

antonym- does the velostat (or whichever solution you're working on) impair the velocity sensitivity at all?

fixing buttons - you order a tact switch and soldder it in. very easy procss. vst will charge you 7.50 for the actual akai part, but we're actively looking into finding cheaper alternatives in bulk (we're talking pennies each).

as for the velostat--the velocity sensitivity is GREAT with velostat, while it works.

as for the other sensors, wait for the video

If AKAI wants to make business then this is a great oppurtunity to make MORE MONEY there obvisously lacking with their customers which is not good for them in the future lol , I'd definetly like to see a new PAD DESIGN!!!!!!!

After following this thread etc for a while as my 1000 has the same problem they all have with these crappy pads i decided to see if i could get some sort of response from akai support and I nearly fell over when they did reply....i know alot of requests have fallen on deaf ears for others.

After a few messages back and forwards i was informed of two things :

1. According to Akai a batch of units did go out with bad pads!
2. Apparently akais replacement pads are now improved upon!
