Help me out here...

I need to make a decision, and I need all of your input (no homo)! I have a blue 1000, a few of the pads are hurtin. It's a getting to be a pain. I really want to upgrade to either a 2000xl maxed, or an old 3000. A bigger machine basically. I got a response from an ad I posted...

He has a 2000xl maxed, and an old 3000 that was completely refurbished. He wasn't really planning on ever trading the 2000xl, but he would for the right price. And the 3000 can be traded, he had it up on Ebay for 1800, but he was asking me for $1200 and the mpc1000. He also said the headphone jack is making noise all of a sudden on the 3000. Basically, what should I offer him. I was thinking the MPC1000 and like $600 for his 3000 as is. Guitar center here in Boston had one for 1400. Or should I go for the 2000xl, it might cost more? He was unsure, and wanted me to bring him an offer. Please let me know what you think. Or if you wanna make a deal too!!!! -Jesse

I just talked with him again. He wants to do the following:

My mpc1000 and $800. This will get me his mpc3000 that is in perfect condition except for the headphone jack. Anyone know how much it would be to fix that, and If I could do it myself? Is this a good deal? How much do good mpc3000's go for these days? Thanks for any input guys. What would you do???

wow, iunno but that seeems wild to me. all the mpc 3000s ive seen are priced at 1000 or less. i think u should do some research before acting too quick on this one. im sure u can find a better deal

Really? 3000's i thought were usually around $1500. The special thing about this one is that he had it completely refurbished. Everything internally is new according to him (its also been maxed out). Even the screen and pads are in perfect condition. The only thing is that the headphone jack needs to be replaced. How much would that run me, I cant find the part?

He wants to do $1000 plus my mpc1000 (has bad pads) for his 3000. If this seems to be a bad idea, I could always try to sell my mpc1000 for around 5-600 and then get the mpc200xl with upgrades, or the 2500. I could even keep my mpc1000 if its a good idea (use the effects, etc...). What would you do? Basically I'm looking to upgrade to a larger, bigger padded, feature full mpc. The 1000 has excellent features, but the pads suck.

Hey nicole, thanks for your help. The guy that has this mpc3000 is from craigslist, he lives here in the city. So when I get up the money, I need to go see him about this. He wants my 1000 as a toy for him and his son. He has a 2000xl, the 3000 and a 4000. Its a collection for him, and he just noticed a month ago that the 3000 headphone jack makes a humming sound or something...? I will definitely test this thing out before purchase, make a beat at his house basically. With all that said:

Should i just try to sell it cash, and get a brand new 2000xl with upgrades? Or should i get a brand new 2500 (i dont think it needs any upgrades?). The dilemma is that hypothetically I could get a really good condition 3000 for a fairly low price?

I'm almost convincing myself to get either of those new ones... 2000xl or 2500? I'm doing this purchase next week definite... LET ME KNOW!!!!

well selling the 1k and gettin 1 2kxl seems reasonable. since u said u wanted a bigger machine with comfortable pads

I found a great deal!!! And they keep coming...

I put money down on a 2000xl studio plus (confirmed it has the 8 outs, and 16 megs ram). This is at a major music store here in Boston. It was for 999, but they have a sale so its only 899. Then they are adding 2 years of insurance for $90. This covers everything, except for if I physically break it like throwing it across the room. And I'd never do that to ANY mpc. This store will also buy my 1000 from me for around 400. I might just hold onto it, and fix the pads though.

So then I found someone on Craigslist that has a 2000xl with the multi card reader brand new still in the box for sale. This one doesn't have the studio upgrades, but maybe I can get it for cheap. I just sent them an email to negotiate. If I can get this newer one for cheap I could upgrade it myself and come out even. The only issue is that I wont be able to add insurance

Im pretty happy with my decision on the studio plus with insurance. I feel like Im making a good investment. But let me know if I have any better options. I'm going to have some extra loot next week. I could afford to by a brand new 4000 if I wanted... I just want to get the best deal out right now. If you had like $2-3000 burning a whole in your pocket, what would you do for an MPC? man get the 2500, i've had the mpc 60 & 2kxl maxed out. now im rocking a 1000 until i can get myself a 2500. the 2kxl is a dope machine, but if your used to the loading times on your 1000 you'll probably get a bit frustrated if you make beats with lots of samples.

i love the feel of the 2kxl more than any mpc i've tried, but the 2500 is an upgrade besides that and has a nice feel to it also. direct record is awesome if you want to sample a synth or live instruments. but in the end its all about what kind of workflow you have.

I definitely hear what your saying about the 2500 being like the 1000 feature wise, and of course it is a larger machine... How's the screen on it? Are there more features/options than the 1000 has? Doesn't it come with the 8 outs? I need to be sure the 2500 feels good though, and sounds good... I like the big clunky mpc's.

So you think I should pass on this studio plus for 899 with a $90 two year insurance? I'll have enough loot to do whatever, but I need to get the best quality/versatile machine. I LOVED the 1000, still have it, but I need something bigger and better! Thanks for the input...

the only mpcs I would buy today are the old ones like 60, 60II and 3000.

if you want the new stuff I suggest u wait for a new mpc to come out.

any news on a new mpc? that would be crazy if they did something like a 3500...

The 2500 is only 1499 at this store (like new condition). hmmm????
